Taken 2 just broke the worldwide October opening record with $105M.

Wow lmao. The people > The criticsWe can all expect a 60%+ drop next week. Possibly matching Taken 1's second week gross.

I went to Lincoln Square(2nd highest grossing theater NYC) and people loved Taken 2. People thought that it was just like Taken 1. Which isn't a bad thing to most.

it shows that critics reviews mean little. WOM, not critics reviews is what matters at the box office. If a film does good and critics liked it or if a film does bad and critics hated it, it is just a coincidence

It just shows this was a critic-proof movie. Nothing more, nothing less. There are plenty of examples of reviews effecting box office gross, both positive and negative.

Indie film distributors would disagree with you.

does every well reviewed indie film break out? No, the ones that get good WOM and interest from audiences do, so again, WOM is the bigger factor here, not critic reviews Edited by John Marston

B+ Cinemascore says it won't drop 60%. 55-58%.

But who's to say initial WOM didn't develop from great/terrible reviews? At that level it's hard to differentiate, and a small film would definitely be worried if its reviews sucked.
