Trade negotations to avoid higher tariffs from each side. We will know this Friday if US will really raise the tariffs on Chinese goods. But if things become worse, I can see a rise of Chinese nationalism again and what happened when IW opened might happen to future Hollywood movies. Won't affect EG that much since it's now winding down. But it could affect DP, Aladdin, and Godzilla.

Douban rating for Detective Pikachu starts at 7.4. Not a goodnumber to start at I am afraid. Shazam for example started at 7.3

 

I was gonna post some comparisons but such early ratings always change a lot and I dont have early ratings for any other movies. For example Shazam above started at 7.3 but then ended at 6.6. So it is likely Detective Pikachu will fall as well.

 

Overall Douban ratings are not very indicative of legs. Maoyan is more important but this at least gives us an idea of reception so far

Up to 36m at noon time. Run rate around 4m per hour. What is a good OD for this movie. 2nd day PS looks weak(just $14m at this point). I know 2nd day PS multi will be better, but opening saturday increases are tepid unless it has extraordinary WOM(we are waiting for Maoyan) but isn't Taopiaopiao quite close to Maoyan. So 9+ looks unlikely.
