Either the CGI from the first hasn't held up or this CGI is noticeably worse. Some of those backgrounds scream CGI.

Oh, completly disagree. I'm really a CGI hater and nitpick everything (Warcraft, ekhem), but here..? Not really, Alice 1 looked much worse.

The colors seem to pop a lot more than the first Alice did so that's a plus.

Everything looks good except Depp's makeup.

It looks quite generic, the thought the final bit was amusing. though.  

 

Doubt the trailer did anything to anyone who wasn't already interested in the movie.

 

I can see a Prince Caspian drop, with 2 aggravations: No goodwill and half of the 3D share from the first movie.

 

applying the same drop, already taking into account the 3D share, Alice 2 would make around 140m.

I do not care what is CGI and what isn't.

 

It is the style that is atrocious. My eyes are burning.

 

And after the "This cannot be good"-line at the latest I wanted to hurt Depp really badly.

Looks more intriguing than the first. Also getting a strong American McGee's Alice vibe from this. The clockwork and Mad Hatter levels from that game were my favorites so this is good.

Man, compare how Depp was plastered on the Alice marketing (enough that people think he's the lead even though he has 15 mins of screentime) to this.

I just found out Depp actually won the SAG Best Actor award for Pirates of the Caribbean. And I thought the Oscars were a joke.

It was a really really really beloved performance at the time (and despite so many lame sequels, still is).

 

I'm curious as to how this performs. Burton's not directing, Depp's appeal has dropped tremendously, 3D is now no longer a big deal (when it was a big selling point for the first movie which was the first film in the format since Avatar), and this sequel seems to be at least 3-4 years too late. A 50% drop-off sounds about right, though that would still be a huge total.

Pirates of the Caribbean is awful and Johnny Depp is the worst thing in it.
