WOM for LOTR was on a whole another level, they got Oscar push and they belong to an era when movies used to get looooong legs. Not really great comparisons.

All LOTR had Best PIcture nomination, but even with that factor, TTT and ROTK did not got exceptional legs beyond January. Maybe a little boost after Oscar, but nothing specialFOTR: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/oscar/chart/?yr=2001&view=fulldetail&p=.htmTTT: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/oscar/chart/?yr=2002&view=fulldetail&p=.htmROTK: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/oscar/chart/?yr=2003&p=.htmROTK won every Oscar it had been nominated. Mystic River, which won just 2, did nearly the same gross than it after nominations announce.

All huge movies have a backlash. By that I mean losers who pretend a year or two later they never REALLY liked it when upon release all they did was whip out their junk to it and insult anyone who didn't 100% praise said film.

It will happen to The Avengers.

It will not get LOTR legs, plain and simple.IAL and NT2, as I mentioned before are much better comparisons. Or you can take SH2 and MI4 as comparisons from last year.

Les Misérables grossed an estimated $18 million yesterday, making it the 2nd highest Christmas Day opening in history behind Sherlock Holmes which opened on a Friday in 2009 to $24.6 million. Les Mis now holds the record for the biggest non-weekend Christmas Day opening in history, besting Marley & Me, which opened on a Thursday in 2008 to $14.4 million. It is also the highest ever opening day for a musical.

Les Misérables received an A CinemaScore overall, with females (56% of the audience tracked) rating our film A+, and not one other category broken down by age gave it less than an A.

Backlash against The Avengers hasn't even started.

It will in a few years. Right around when Marvel Films starts to fully nosedive.

There was a time I liked Avatar and Avengers. I really did. Now I don't give a fuck about any of them. Only to think about Avatar I want to kill myself for having bought the Bluray.

I agree with you. I am not saying TH will get LOTR legs. I am saying that LOTR cumed a very big percentage of their grosses during Christmas, independently of Awards success. TH even more given it has been released 5 days earlier. Edited by peludo

It might be possible for it to finish with $150m. Edited by BEEJAYGRAD11

I quote myself. In fact, I am following I am legend run because it is an identical release (same date, similar opening and second weekend drop)
