A Marvel Fanboy

Passengers | Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence | Dec 21, 2016 | Trailer pg 70

Almost all of her films have not relied on her being a draw. X-Men was pre-sold. Hunger Games was pre-sold, first as the book phenom and then as the breakout franchise with a built-in audience. SLP was a platform release sold primarily as a DOR film, then starring Bradley Cooper. Etc.

Pretty much every film she has been in she either wasn't the face of it, or the film was primarily sold through other angles. When she starts headlining films in her own right where she is the focus of marketing and attention, then we can start calling her a draw.

She sold SLP, it made 100m because of her, not Cooper.

You could make this argument about 99.9% of actors around. Maybe all of them at this point. If Lawrence isn't viable, then who the hell is? We don't live in a world where anyone can make people see a movie simply because they're in it. The true stars aren't bankable just cause people like them, but also because they pick great projects.

Yes, JLaw is not 1990s Tom Cruise. But nobody is. Not even Tom Cruise. Not even Will Smith anymore. She's still about as good a female lead draw, you can get.

Or maybe this will hurt Rogue One more than Rouge One will hurt it

They'll hurt each other with the space aspect. But this one has more of a romantic element, while Rogue will be straight sci-fic. I think they'll attract different audiences so both should co-exist.
