Weekend Estimates - (Pain & Gain: 20M, The Big Wedding: 7.5M)

Recommended Posts

The movie cost little enough and performed enough above tracking that I'm sure Paramount is happy with this result. But under normal circumstances I would've expected more from a Wahlberg/Rock/Bay teamup. I blame some oversaturation of the two actors in movies this year, as well as the nature of the movie itself (which was basically Michael Bay's Fargo). I do expect it to completely crash next weekend and fail to break 50m total.

Not disastrous for Oblivion, but for a non-sequel sci-fi property, WOM obviously isn't very strong. It will also die next weekend and fail to break 100m total. Late April was not a good time to release this.

Place Beyond the Pines really tumbled. I don't expect more than 25m from it now.

Will Olympus hit 100m? Probably not, since it'll start really shedding screens soon, but it's not wholly unlikely.

As far as pre-summer weekends go, this was a pretty good one. Bring on Tony.

Speaking of Bay, I will never understand why The Island bombed so hard.

Because Scar Jo's box office poison is super effective against everyone.

Until she joined Marvel. It's not very effective against Marvel.
