Im glad people are liking it, I gave up on RT scores after ST:ID was given 86%, and I was conned into thinking it was a good movie.

Some might say you were khanned.

I'm sorry. That might've been too soon for my first post.

No, it's fine as long as there's more to it than being just fanboy fapping material.

STID gets shitted on way too much. It's a good movie untill that part where they go full on aping Wrath of Khan. But other than that, it's its own movie that happens to star Khan as the villain.

Actually, the villain of the first third is Khan, then it's Admiral Marcus in the second third, and then back to Khan for the final act.

Speaking of unearned, shit moments in other J.J. Abrams homage porn...

Giacchino did all the heavylifting. What a brilliant manipulative bastard. (Even if it seldom makes sense thematically, Abrams loves going for THE big moment regardless of the connective tissue and the set-up without really earning that big pay-off. I mean it's the little boy that lectures the alien monster about letting go and overcome in the previous sequence then you got this scene parroting ET so hard in which you got the little boy that now has to learn to let go and say goodbye to the alien/mother's mourning, the alien that was about to kill him. The S8 boy and the monster didn't have Eliot and ET's deep relationship and yet this sequence acts as a heartwrenching seperation/liberation...So phony).

Into Darkness is also falling into that trap then succomb to its own absence of dramatic agency having to literally and heavily rely on another (better) movie in the 3rd act.

Okay. Khan as "a" villain. Hairsplitting...

It isnt, really.

It was a breezy, fun, entertaining sci-fi action movie and that was all it really needed to be. Star Trek was all but dead before it came out.

Paramount let JJ make a movie that would appeal to people outside of the die hard Trek fans. It worked

No, it's more like... They asked him to.
