Yeah, there is no denying the holiday vibe of the trailer, but this would get slaughtered next holiday. It is already bound to be a bloodbath as it is for family films if some things don't move. You have Trolls, Moana, Fantastic Beasts, Sing, Jumanji, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children all targeting the same holiday family audience. Not to mention the inevitable family appeal of Doctor Strange and Rogue One. Either we will have a couple huge ones and tons of big flops or nothing will be huge and it will be a spread the wealth situation. Probably the former though.

Pretty much Moana, Rogue One, Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts will rule.

Depends on how big each is. I'd say there's only room for three really big ones in that demo at the most. Although Strange sounds like it could be darker than typical MCU so may not be as family appealing.

Rogue One: Somewhere in the 400 range, maybe 500 depending how big TFA is.

Beasts and Moana: 280-300M

Strange: 170-180M

I guess she doesn't have the name recognition of Heath Ledger or Paul Walker but this being Melissa Mathison's final screenplay will lend it a sort of poignancy

I want to this to do well, it likely will be a hit in the UK because it's Dahl. If this breaks out in the US, it will likely hurt both  The Secret Life of Pets and Ice Age 5

Dory and Pets are far more likely to hurt it than it hurt them.

If you're the most desirable option for parents, you'll still make bank.

Ice Age is on the decline in America, anyway, and I think Illumination movies appeal more to the "two hour babysitter/nap" crowd. If Dory is an event it'll be a concern but being the new film against a sequel already in release will help it

Illumination sure has incredibly huge grosses for only appealing to the "babysitter/nap" crowd. Even if it's true that adults aren't big fans, kids most certainly are. You know, the target demo of these movies.
