All you young twerps... the book is an all-time children's classic. Roald Dahl, man! It's being adapted by Melissa Fuckin' Mathison! Directed by Spielberg!

Now, I understand maybe it gets too commercialized during the translation into a summer blockbuster, but comparing it to stuff like PAN (a would-be revisionist spin on a new origin story)? You gotta be kidding.

I agree, same writer as ET gives me hope.

And BLACK STALLION! And KUNDUN! And (to a lesser degree) INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD!

Yet, when Melissa Mathison died last year the headlines in the papers said Ex Wife of Harrison Ford Dies, even in the trade papers though they tossed in & Scribe of ET.

Looks... fine I guess?

I don't know, trailer didn't exactly blow me away. Then again neither did the Bridge of Spies trailer or even some ET teasers speaking of classic Speilberg family films. But what Speilberg is good at is the storytelling, and of course that wouldn't always be evident in the trailers. I'd just say that if he wasn't directing, I'd be slightly nervous.

But those Giants man... they look like something straight out of Jack the Giant Slayer.

I'm guessing Warner Bros wants it to become a franchise similar to DC and Potter. The fact they gave it a holiday release originally and now a Easter 2018 release makes me think it'll be $150m minimum.

I doubt Spielberg has any interest in making it a franchise though.

The author Ernest Cline is writing a sequel so I think there is every intention to make this a franchise should this first film be successful.

After Adventures of Tintin which was the most heartless animated feature I've ever seen? Bridge of Spies was a good movie but I feel like BFG has that Spielberg magic.

Bah, Tintin was pure adventure fun. Spielberg hasn't had a misfire since 2001, and a turd since 1991.

Yes, but if there is a sequel, I doubt Spielberg will return to direct it. That's all I'm saying.
