Point remains that Disney is being targeted just because they're Disney and everyone knows them. People may claim they hate them in polls or on social media, but they still buy their toys and plushies for their kids and go to the parks. It's empty words and that was evidenced as much by the last quarterly earnings.

THIS, Disney has been the dominant studio in the Business for along time, and the downside of that is you become automatically the Number One Target. Has Little to do with politics.

Feb 25 (Reuters) - Walt Disney (DIS.N), and industrial conglomerate Reliance Industries (RELI.NS), have signed a binding pact to merge their media operations in India, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The media unit of Reliance, controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and its affiliates are expected to own at least 61% of the merged entity, with Disney holding the rest, the report said.

Quality is a primarily issue but alot of people believe disney's main priority has been to be inclusive lately rather than making the best film possible and it's noticeable. If you put hurdles in the way, you're more likely to trip.

Well, you're setting yourself up for cynical derision from all sides when you make remakes, sequels, and franchises your primary business model. I can only hope the promotion of the Searchlight head is an effort to move away from that.

I think Lightyear being a boring slog was the key reason why OW crumbled with WOM being pretty mediocre for both kids and families, and less so because of a brief gay moment that happens for like 30 seconds. Lightyear was a concept that did have intrigue but that was due to interest of the concept itself rather than interest of the film, it happens to a lot of blockbuster. KFP4 had record trailer views for Dreamworks and it might not even open to 50m.

Accidentally posted this in the MCU thread when it should belong here:

Not a Disney decision, but Disney deciding to raise the profile of Mando and Baby Yoda more and more and more (really does look like a SW film is finally happening, for instance) makes it all the more bizarre/short sighted that EA decided to nuke the Respawn Mandalorian FPS game allegedly for "lack of Jedi/lightsabers" in it.

Yes, cutbacks have probably a bit more to do with it, but only as much as "gonna axe something and something without lightsabers is gonna be on the chopping block first."

Just incredible timing on EA's part, really.

(and plausibly a massively own-goal one should the very Jedi-less Outlaws blowup on Ubisoft)

I mean EA and short-sighted business decisions go together like PB&J

This could apply to 99.9% of movies that have ever been made lmao.

Come on, we all know that real question is "Will this movie make money?'

Disney promised a "Mando-verse" movie about 7 months ago so some of the benefits to Mando & Grogu should have been baked in prior to the game's cancellation (granted, that version of the movie would have involved 1-2 shows featuring jedi/force stuff). Knowing absolutely nothing about this, I'm wondering if there were some "what do you have the rights to do with Mandalorian" roadblocks given live action tv shows exploring that a bit more and the existing lore about them seemingly being contradictory.

I would give a Young Avengers movie a lot more chance of being greenlit then  ALita 2.

Nope.  Game was abruptly cancelled about five, six days ago.

Was part of EA laying off over 600 employees

Now not exactly an unbiased source, but looks like if Respawn was allowed to cook, it would have been quite the tasty meal.

This is pretty much EA Being EA.

---

As I check, if there is a conspiratorial aspect here, it's perhaps repurposing development back to Titanfall, as Respawn is going back to that well, apparently.  Which is somewhat ironic as I seem to recall hearing that the SW RTS from Respawn was using assets from the abandoned Titanfall 3.  Might be grapevine stuff talking there, though.

Either way, this ain't on LFL/Disney.
