Poor DWA. Firstly Panda 2, now Dragon 2, all died in the hands of R comedy sequels. Poor DWA basically had five movies in a row to open below expectations since the Flop of the Guaidians....

Well I think Dragon 2 might still make DW money, just not enough to save their company from their last three flops in three years.And Penguins and Home doesn't really look like smash hits in the making. Although we'll see.

What happened to DWA? Is the competition from all of the other computer animation studios oversaturating the market or has DWA just been putting out bad movies in recent years? They used to be Disney's toughest competition.

 Except Dragon 2 apparently is not a bad movie ...I still blame it on Fox's terrible marketing abilities. They are known to have poor domestic boxoffice performance but stronger than studios OS. They have not got any animation over the 200m mark since forever. Now even Dragon 2 could fail 200m in their hands. Who would ever think that.

I don't think so. Ray from BOM mentioned that DM2 had humor front and center and that helped a lot. DM2 was sort of an anomaly cause minions became such a huge hit. Even getting their own movie (like Puss In Boots from Shrek 2). I never expected Dragon 2 to be a DM2, but did expect 250m+.

But it's the same old story, also with The Croods. Dreamworks got more and more into adventure, than pure comedy lately and all those movies got legs. Even "Rise of the Guardians". Great, great movies, full of heart, but they just can't open with a bang. There's still hope for Dragons, but this is actually close to a shocker now.

Not really. Other June animated release like Brave and MU had their Sat drops. So this is 't really that surprising. It's just that everyone was quite expecting a sat bump due to the film's great WOM.
