Weekend Numbers...pg 29 (Lucy 44M, Herc 29...big drops for most holdovers)

Recommended Posts

I do think it's plausible that family audiences are largely tapped out from the June '13-February '14 bonanza. What demand remained was largely taken up by Maleficent.I don't know if it's permanent, but they must be either choosing to wait for post-theatrical, or are holding back until November.

22JS, HTTYD2 and Maleficent were having some great drops the past few weeks. This weekend seems pretty bad for them.

Is HTTYD2 ever going to surpass 22JS in weekend number? It's going to happen at some stage right? I refuse to believe otherwise.

Yes, Herc's number is decent when you look at it from our muted expectations but unless it does really well overseas, it's not going to be a big film at all.

That was also my thought, but they lost as many (more in Maleficent's case) last week, yet their drops were great.

Remaining venues probably cut more showtimes and/or moved them into smaller auditoriums this weekend than they did last weekend. And in the cases of the family stuff, I wonder if Hercules overperformed among the kid/family quadrant. I saw a good amount of kids at my theater, they couldn't all be going to see Planes/Dragon/Echo/Maleficent if all of them dropped (unless my theater is not representative of nationwide performance this weekend).
