With a 6.5/10, I don't know if that's really 'solid buzz' or more 'passable reception.' $35-45 million OW is what I expect at this point. $60-65 million OW could happen, but I'm not counting on it. Gopher
If The Heat can pull 40m OW I don't see why Ghostbusters would do worse (they had tracking at 35-41 I heard?). The awareness is higher than almost any film this summer and good reviews means the film has cred Sony's marketing didn't give it. How high it goes... I don't know? I don't think anyone's been clamoring for this movie except the nerds who won't go out of spite.
Impact
Wow Ice Age 5 comes out in 2 weeks-I don't think I've seen any advertising other then when it had a teaser at Peanuts (which everyone thought was a short film and enjoyed that-but then again nobody really knew it was going to be for a film) and oddly on water bottles! Then again the film is basically being made for the international audience, not for American.
Cochofles
Regardless of how much money Ghostbusters ends up doing, its current 78 % fresh at RT must be a huge disappointment for the hordes of people who were utterly convinced that this film would be a sure-fire turd that would garner a sub-10 % rating on RT. Remember how many people thought (and hoped) that this would be a critical disaster akin to the Fantastic Four reboot? I never saw the alleged awfulness that many people claimed to see in the trailers, and based on Feig's recent filmography, which has been quite solid (particularly when it comes to comedies starring women), there was no indicator for anyone to think that this film would be a major disaster. I just hope that the box office is solid also. Edited July 11, 2016 by Cochofles
Krissykins
Had a quick look to see how many tickets Ghostbusters is selling here in the UK at some Cineworld cinemas. Their seating charts show how many seats are booked. Most 2D showings are at least 50% full, while 3D seems to be quieter. Could have a decent start today in the UK.
