The Kili/Tauriel romance is especially flat.

As an adult, I agree. But it killed with 10-12 year old girls.

Also, I'd say the emotional scenes with either Freeman or McKellan or both actually went well.  It was the rest of them that felt a little contrived.

Honestly even though I like the Hobbit movies the "emotional" parts come across as either contrived or stuff that could have been very effective but isn't as well developed as it should (which is weird since they had eight hours of film to do it properly).

I agree about Kili/Tauriel and i have griped about it before. I do not agree about the rest.

Down more than 1M...

People talking of BOTFA grossing less than 200M in 3... 2... 1...

Sunday drop seems to have been more like past Hobbit movies, despite holidays being closer. Expected a better drop, so did the studio. Hmm...

For me, the Hobbit movies would have been more enjoyable if they were focused on the titular character. It felt less like Bilbo's story as the trilogy wore on, while for the much grander and more epic scale of the LOTR trilogy, it never forgot that Frodo and Sam were the heart of that story.

If it was really that bad, people wouldn't have loved it enough to make it the years biggest film, it also wouldn't have scored over 90% with critics. Some people love to be different I guess :P

The final Hobbit had some decent, inventive action scenes and that's about it. I cared more about a 3 word talking tree in GOTG than I did with anyone in the Hobbit movies after 3 fucking movies lol. You know a franchise is a let down when I can only remember about 3 characters names. I remember more names from GOTG than I do from The Hobbit movies and I've only seen GOTG twice lol.

Yeah, thinking your way TH will make 1B, much more than the puny GotG so...

its another POTC, its a lot of fun, what more do people want?

Oh, noooooo, POTC is one of the best adventure series ever. Don't put GotG near it. It's not even 1/100 the movie POTC (any of them) is.

Frodo & Sam had a much more pivotal role to play, for half the journey they were own their own, while Bilbo was just kinda along for the ride, even though he did prove useful and even took initiative as the journey went on. It's not unlike the book, they just expanded other characters and rightly so.

Funny, how some people have the opposite reaction to myself. Bilbo had more to do and proved more useful as the journey went on. Other than the parts in the Shire and perhaps the meeting with Gollum, Bilbo wasn't much of a focus in AUJ.
