Seems more palatable to wider audience than stuff like Coraline, ParaNorman and Boxtrolls. Might also perform better overseas.

Jason
I'm seeing a lot of Internet ads for Kubo all of a sudden. Hopefully the word's getting out, I think Kubo's got a lot of potential as long as people know about it.

It doesn't look anywhere near as niche to me as Laika's previous films, looks more exciting and fun for a mainstream kid audience. And I still can't get over how CG the stop motion looks, which is also a plus for its appeal to a more mainstream audience.

Thankfully it's the last family demo film of the season, and has a whole month of no new releases in that market.

And, ParaNorman and Boxtrolls each did $50M+ DOM too. I expect just under/over $100M DOM for Kubo.
MovieMan89
Comparing this to Boxtrolls, it really does look infinitely more appealing. Can't see how it doesn't go a solid 20m+ higher at the least.
Arlborn
Man, those posters are gorgeous! So well done! If they place some of them in all the correct places it should get some people who see them curious. alisson23
This film looks great. I hope that finally LAIKA earn at the box office what it deserves.
Jonwo
$80-100m would be brilliant, considering that the highest grossing stop motion film is still Chicken Run with $106m.

Mojoguy
I think LAIKA is going for that Disney audience with Kubo. Female lead goes on adventure with wacky male sidekick, with some heartwarming scenes maybe. This certainly looks like their most appearing movie yet. Coraline and Norman were too scary and Boxtrolls was kind of weird.
BadAtGender
Laika's three previous films had budgets of $60m. I'd expect this to have something in a similar range, because while stop motion is incredibly time intensive to make, it doesn't require as large a staff as other pictures (or the processing power.) If it pulls in $100-$120m WW, as the previous films did, it's probably fine for profitability. Stop motion isn't going to make bank, probably, but it seems pretty safe for Laika to continue as they are.
Blankments
This needs to come out NOW, I'm tired of marveling at the trailer's animation lol

I agree with you, except that isn't Kubo the lead? So perhaps "Lead goes on adventure with wacky sidekick" would be more accurate?
