Beleg Strongbow
I'm amazed the movie is holding as well as it is given how mechanical and boring it was so please stop pouting, it will beat DOS. And I don't think anyone was really buying that pretentious "defining moment of the middle earth legend" crap in the trailer after the first 2 movies, that movie came out 11 years ago and swept the awards. I think, as fans, we were ridiculously spoiled with every kind of success LOTR brought home. It feels like it did everything right. And now, when we wanted so desperately for lightning to strike twice, the expectations were (I think) quite unfair to the Hobbit films. I never expected these films to match what LOTR did. And, really, no one in 2001 had any idea that LOTR would do anything close to what it did. So, for me, the Hobbit films did very well and met my expectations. And we shouldn't mistakenly identify that conclusion to be a negative thing. Edited January 4, 2015 by Beleg Strongbow

Frozen
The Hobbit 3 has almost tripled its production budget. It's about $25 million or so away from that. By the time it's finished, it will have almost quadrupled its budget. I don't see how any studio could be upset with that.

baumer
LOL The Interview dropped almost 40% even after doubling its theaters. WOM has kicked in it seems. Uhhh, no. It was also released on cable and satellite this weekend. So there is absolutely no need to see it at a theater.

MovieMan89
350 sounds a bit much. 340 seems much more realistic. 345-ish is probably where it ends, but 350 could happen. It's grossing more than Catching Fire was at this same point. That had like another 18m or so to add from this point to its gross, but MJ1 is having the much better holds. So another 25m isn't out of the question. But it depends on how the strong looking January competition affects it too.
