I follow some obscure things. Boyhood is on the edge of the domestic top 100. It will get passed by Selma and American Sniper.

Don't indie-type Oscar nominees get late boosts? I was thinking of The Artist or stuff like that.

Yes, but Boyhood released half a year ago - its run is over. It's currently playing at fewer than two dozen cinemas in the entire country. It has made its money, and if people want to watch it then they will buy it on dvd/bluray/vod.

The Artist released in awards season so it's not even remotely similar.

No one knows what Zero Dark Thirty is. The title doesn't sell the movie, the premise and the people do.

Latest after Bravo Two Zero a lot of people were aware about this kind of ~ naming a mission. Everyone who'd guessed this movie too will be about a military mission or similar was right.

I knew about the marches, but not the names of the involved towns (or even states). Not common knowledge in my country I think. Curious how they'll name it for international markets.

Selma.   isn't that a name out of the Flintstones? (I know, it is Wilma ;) ), but I really tried to remember where I had that name before and only thought it is about a woman

Without reading here all the hints I would not have gotten interested, as I do very seldom watch movies about women (usually too drama / romance / .. for my taste)

Nice increase for Hobbit, dissapoitning for Selma, it is going to finish at about 70mln DOM. Taken 3, just okay.

the opposite of:

Good for Taken. Seems ok for Selma. Horrible drop for Hobbit. Might not pass DOS now

Again:

Hobbit 2 got released in another week in relation to the holidays than Hobbit 3.

So the comparison to last week percentages are not to take side-by-side as one is still within the school free time and the other not. Try the Friday one week later....

Even if Boyhood wins all the major awards, it won't get a big box office boost anymore because as everyone said the theater run is pretty much done. Just like Hurt Locker was when it was winning the awards. And it's from IFC so not a big one unlike TWC which supported The Artist

Selma can't catch a break, missing the Guild awards and BAFTAs and now underwhelming in the box office. But we'll if can win the Globes or get major Oscar nominations, it could turn things around

Selma is one of those films that does 6x-11x off its OW though. It was unrealistic (on my part and many others) to expect a $25-35 million OW.

$15.5 million/$21 million ($41 million)

$12 million ($57 million)

$10 million ($72 million)

$9 million ($85 million)

$8.5 million/$9.5 million ($99 million)

$7 million ($108 million)

$5.5 million ($116 million)

$4 million ($122 million)

$2.5 million ($126 million)

$1.5 million ($128 million)

$132 million DOM total

$130 million isn't likely, but a $90-105 million finish is certainly feasible with some key Oscar nominations.
