Weekend #s | 50SOG 81m, (RTH Sunday puts it at about 84M) Kings 35.6, AS 16m, JA 9.43m (official) | all #s on p1

Recommended Posts

67.4M after 2 days, looking at past Valentine's day saturdays, most movies drop between 36% to 50% on Sunday and a further 35-50% on Monday. If 50 Shades only drops 36% tomorrow, it will get 23M and barely past 90M. Think it will fall just short of that.

50% drop (50 First Dates), around $85m.

There seems to be so much negativity towards the "soft" opening of 50SOG.

85 million over three days for an R rated s&M movie.  That's frikkin enormous.  If people here hadn't predicted crazy numbers then we'd all be stunned with the opening.

50 Shades is going to have a much bigger drop than 36% tomorrow.  50% is probably the best case scenario.

Valentine's Day for example which had it's VD land on a Sunday had a 70% drop on President Day Monday.

The Fandango reports also contributed

Fandango's top five pre-sellers, at the same point in their sales cycles (two days before release date), are:

1. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" (2009)

2. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" (2011)

3. "The Hunger Games" (2012)

4. "Fifty Shades of Grey" (2015)

5. "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1" (2011)

The company fifty shades had on that list, the lowest weekend among them was 142M. It just turned out that this movie was way too skewed towards online sales.

But all those other movies are PG-13 fantasy adventure films. FSOG is a Hard R BDSM sex movie. Obviously it does not have the reach of those other movies so its a pointless comparisons. FSOG has done tremendously well.

Did we just actually agree on something?

50 Shades is a phenomenon.

I didn't read the books. But I'm seeing it tonight because I have a hard time remembering the last film that was all over my facebook and conversations in work and with family like this one.

I'm in the UK, so American Sniper went mad in the US, but not here.
