EX MACHINA meets ARRIVAL? That's a weird comparison, unless he's talking about visually.

The aliens come, a scientist wants to bang them, unwittingly unleashes them upon the world

I won't be surprised if it releases this year. Paramount has no Oscar contenders.

Downsizing ? It has a December 22 release date as of now, the genre do not scream Oscar too much if it was other people doing it, but Payne has a really good track record (3 best picture in a row) with them, Waltz and Damon too. Combined with that award friendly release date, look like an possible candidate.

This has already completed filming, right? (Unless they add some reshoots in later this summer.)

This thread belongs in the main forum, not On The Lot.

We don't have a date nor a trailer for this yet. So on the lot it stays. It'll get moved once we get some more news on it.

The movie was originally supposed to hit cinemas this year but unfortunately for all those that were looking forward to the picture, Annihilation has been moved back to 2018 by its studio Paramount.

The announcement came at CinemaCon, but also along with something to please fans as footage of the movie was on display. The Wrap has shared a brief description of what was shown:

In the clip, screened Tuesday to movie theatre operators and press at CinemaCon in Las Vegas,  Natalie Portman receives her husband back (Oscar Isaac) after he mysteriously disappeared for 12 months. However, he seems different and won’t tell her where he’s been or how he came home, and soon, an ambulance is called to save Isaac who is now spitting blood. Next thing she knows, Portman’s character wakes up in an institution, and is told her husband is gone forever. She is enlisted to go on a voyage where the laws of nature don’t apply.

Hopefully it releases early in the year and they don't put it on the shelf until awards season.

Damn. I really hope they put it up early in the year but I'm not gonna keep my hopes up too much.
