Weekend Thread: Weekend Actuals: IO 29.77, JW 29.24, TG 27.02, | IO Wins Weekend!

I hope JW gets back those 2m(or more) in its international actuals. Anyway congrats to IO for finally getting that top spot. I wonder if both are going to have low drops throughout this week due to the horrible independence day weekend.

IO should get to 350m now. After last weekend's results, i had started to think that 350 won't happen. But it held well throughout the subsequent week despite the sucky 4th July Weekend. I think 350 can and should happen now.

I don't understand the hate for MBFGW. Sure, it didn't endure in the cultural consciousness, but it earned that record by starting small and then building and building to #2 in weekend 20. That was astounding even in 2002. It was a perpetual-motion-machine of WOM.

And yet people hate on the movie now. It's almost like the Ally McBeal of cinema, seemingly nobody on the Internet will admit that they liked it back then, or that its popularity back then was legitimate.

I had jury duty a couple of months ago.  About 500 people of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds, bored to death stuck in the waiting pool and nodding off to Benjamin Button (a movie where people age backwards - how fitting).  MBFGW came on and there was A LOT of laughter.  People still seem to like it even if they're loathe to admit it.

The drops for 4th of July w/e seem normal.  Where films get their boost is the week run up to the holiday, this year Wed and Thur were both inflated and the inflated Friday pretty much balances Sat.

What is the highest daily gross for a film on the 4th? Spider-Man 2?

(I think ID4 may still be the most tickets sold for a movie on the 4th - adjusts to almost $32m, and was nearly flat with the 3rd.)

Young people claim to hate it. No one my age or older hates it.

Awesome for both films to be honest. Yeah yeah I know Inside Out isn't going to do another record but hey I broke one record that I'm happy with. Anyway both of the top two spots are going to be head-to-head this week. Even Terminator could be right between Inside Out and Jurassic World this will be fun.

Apparently Women's Soccer pulled 20m++ viewers last night. Definitely a factor in numbers going down. I think we're gonna see some lovely Monday holds (under 55% for JW and under 50% for IO).

Inside Out will win pretty much every weekday this week, but no doubt Minions will make it struggle for the rest of its run. It and JW will probably continue to llay against each other for a while.

After Minions, Inside Out should stabilize. Aside from Pixels, it has no other options for kids until September (Shaun and the Sheep and Underdogs will bomb).
