Cruddy Weekend Estimates: A-M 24.77m, Pix 24m, Minions 22m, Trainwreck 17.2m, Southpaw 16.5m, PT 12.5m,

Recommended Posts

I had a feeling Paper Towns wouldn't come even remotely close to TFIOs, as most people did, but it's not even entering the top 5, and its opening weekend would be roughly half of Fault's opening day. That's kind of pathetic. Not as much as the idea of having a sub-$25m film at #1 in late July, however. The fact that nothing is dropping less than 35% makes the weekend all the more awful. The shooting must have eaten into numbers for sure.

Critics are snobs. Yep i said it. They have a hard time enjoying slap stick movies. Unless you have adult themed problem in a Comedy Critics cannot enjoy it. That's why they hate Adam Sandler movies because they forget why they started liking you in the first place. That's my boy and Jack and Jill are too horrible movies. But most of the other films he released before that we're good fun. Big Daddy Mr deeds grown ups just go with it waterboy and so on are all fun and very funny movies

I agree 100%.

Also, Sandler doesn't play the Hollywood game. Even by comedic actors' standards, he is a sloppily-dressed, unkempt-looking schlub, which is truly relateable for the average moviegoer, but wildly unappealing to the glamourpusses that run Tinseltown.  I know that he's made some stinkers, but who has not?

Southpaw was the only thing that opened somewhat above expectations.Marketing seems to have hit the target audiences. This bodes well for Creed which has the better received trailer.

Creed also has the better release date. Opening in the Holiday season has proved to be a strong option for adult dramas, unlike late July.

You still think it's considered "bold" to say critics are snobs?

There is a certain mob of posters here who get really offended or pissed off when you say critics are snobs.

If critics are snobs, then everyone else is easy to please.

I fall into this category. I am very easy to please. I know what I like and if a movie makes an attempt to capitalize on what it is that I like I am easily pleased.

Would have seen Paper Towns, but that Carla whatshername seems like such a brat, I just can't. As far as Adam Sandler, I'm not the biggest fan of his movies, but he is one of the nicest guys in the business (in a business filled with a**holes), so I always root for him a little bit.
