Not So Fantastic Weekend Thread | MI5 29.4, F4 26.2, Gift 12, Ricki 7, Shaun 4, Vac 9, AM 7.8

MI5 will outgross Ant-Man but both of them will end below Pitch Perfect 2.

In Ant-Man's case I agree, MI5 probably too (for my taste too early to be 100% sure)

What I forgot to point out (again?) in my OS chart for you a few pages back:

20% worse exchange rates for the Euro (and the countries 'bound to it) plus we have here a heat wave since around 3 weeks, no one I know does anything voluntarily out of the house beside what is not avoidable or driving to a lake for a swim or so = I didn't expect GotG OS numbers from Ant-Man, but the ones for the 1st installments

Only one man predicted failure of this magnitude

#BKBWasRight

Sooo true. I thought this would fail. But, I never imagined it would fail this bad. Only BKB saw an absolute total bomb happening. The rest of us just saw a failure, not a complete and undeniable disaster.

Yeah, I don't care about any of that  But good for you and Pixar fanboys.

There are 8 years between B&R and BB. 7 years is almost the same, and that is the most FOX can wait until releasing another FF movie

LOL I don't think Marvel will even bother to buy the rights back, they'll just let them revert when the time is up instead of forking over cash for damaged goods (at the moment they are probably furious with how one of their chief properties has been devalued and set in ruins as much as this has). I'll be shocked if Fox tries again after this. No one is coming near this property for at least another decade, if not longer.

September actually looks like it has the potential to be pretty decent nas far as quality and box office go

It definitely looks solid. I see a potential of 15-16 $100 million+ DOM grossers from Sep-Dec (the release slate, not calender year). A lot of films targeting different demographics and a fall slate with multiple compelling releases should help 2015 make a comeback after late July/all of August.

I love weekends like this. When the movie gods smile down upon us, and deliver absolute justice to horrible films.

Words do not even describe what an embarrassing failure Fantastic Four is. It's like re-living the release of Batman & Robin, except this case might be even worse.

This is definitely worse. Batman & Robin became a cult comedic hit. So such thing will happen here. Batman & Robin is a true piece of genius comedy filmmaking. Oh and, yes, it does happen to be a bad Batman film.

The Gift straight up won the weekend. 12 not only shows an insane amount of growth over what tracking had it at, its IM indicates that it won't play like a summer horror movie or a Blumhouse pic. I wonder if 50 mil is on the table.

Great for MI5 too. Hope UNCLE doesn't do much damage.

The Gift over F4 DOM

September and October look pretty solid this year, Maze Runner and HT2 likely will break $100m+ domestically for September and I think The Martian will break out as well in October.

Going off-topic, I've been reading interviews with Ryan Kavanaugh and it's strange that he's taken no responsibility for the bankruptcy, it's clear he got too big for his boots with the expansion of his company, had he stuck with financing slates, he would be in this mess.

You missed the entire point. Fantastic Four would travel to the X-Men Universe. So they wouldn't be beloved by the people either. Of course they can't be together in the same Universe, it would make 0 sense

Both character have always shared the same universe, Marvel Universe.

They just don't cross paths often because they have entirely different themes and tones.

Why are the Fantastic Four celebrated when the world hates the X-men? What is Professor X and Magneto fighting for and what the hell does that have to do with the Fantastic Four?

I think it's mostly bcs they are 'changed' bcs a single event and as such the numbers of changed ppl are 'contained'. No bad surprises for parents, no quiet fears about is he/she....

Fear is the base for a lot of hate

The comics differ rather a lot IMHO.

Even if Fox calls you up and says "Hey CJ, we know you know what the kiddies like from your spare time, how about you make us a family friendly sequel?"
