DAJK
Saw American Ultra today. Probably won't remember it 10 years down the line but it isn't bad for late August.

terrestrial
Do we not have the same kind of... boring, sad,.... BO numbers in certain summer days every year...? Even deadline is seemingly aware about that too.... 3RD Update, Saturday 2AM: It’s that time of year when August starts falling apart at the box office. Sure, more kids are back in school with Rentrak reporting 40% K-12 and 23% college in session. Still that doesn’t mean a great movie can’t launch in this corridor, defined as weekend 34 on the calendar. Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds is the reigning historical champ during this frame with a $38.1M opening, and Straight Outta Compton’s estimated second weekend of $27M-$28M will rank as the second highest amount of B.O. ever made during weekend 34 (by an opener or a holdover). That figure is approximately 54% down from Compton’s $60.2M opening. While that’s a tad steeper than originally expected, word of mouth pervades and the Universal/Legendary release will cross the $100 mark on Saturday night. . 1).Straight Outta Compton (UNI), 2,757 theaters / $8.2M-$8.5M Fri. / 3-day cume: $27M-$28M (-54%)/Total cume: $112.7M/ Wk 2 2). terrestrial
Poor FF. At least it's dropping less than 60% Hmmpf, it's probably difficult to reach 60%++, if the 'starting'/comparison point is already such deep, or? There seem to be still some interested in it, maybe out of wanting to judge for themselves and so on
filmlover
I don't even know what War Room is. The holdovers should see light drops next weekend too given the lack of appealing openers there. We Are Your Friends is definitely a dud waiting to happen, won't be surprised by a sub-$5M opening. We Are Your Friends is definitely a dud waiting to happen, won't be surprised by a sub-$5M opening. Sounds like one of those 'faith based' movies to me Storyline: Filled with heart, humor, and wit, WAR ROOM follows Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, a couple who seemingly have it all-great jobs, a beautiful daughter, their dream home. But appearances can be deceiving. In reality, their marriage has become a war zone and their daughter is collateral damage. With guidance from Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discovers she can start fighting for her family instead of against them. As the power of prayer and Elizabeth's newly energized faith transform her life, will Tony join the fight and become the man he knows he needs to be? Together, their real enemy doesn't have a prayer. Probably written... after realizing there is a kind of a market out there for those kind of movies?

Should leg its way past $40 million now, with minimal competition and good WOM plus Labor Day. Phenomenal for AM/Minions. Both should have 20-25% drops next week as well, since there's not much. And a great hold for Labor Day is a given. Compton and MI5 are doing well. Compton should be able to at least do $160 million DOM. Don't think that's ludicrous, since Labor Day is coming up, and its biggest drop will be its second weekend. It's also barely a 2x from its 2nd weekend. MI5 is looking at $190-195 million, potentially $195-200 million if it has sub-20% drops the next two weeks.
