Paper Towns was always going to be profitable, I imagine they'll still make John Green films but not schedule them in the summer

Depends on which John Green book. Paper Towns isn't that popular or good for that matter (and the marketing was pretty bad). Looking For Alaska is very popular (second most probably to TFIOS) and if marketed could do nearly as well as TFiOS did. It could also be a potential awards contender if taken seriously given that the book is highly acclaimed critically.

Looking for Alaska is with Paramount and even though Paper Towns didn't do that well, I'm sure it'll still be made.

They delayed the movies production by 6 months once Paper Towns opened. Apparently they aren't happy with the current cast and want to recast with more likable and believable leads.

Wow, the new one at BOM is really working, only 2 days after the newest release of international numbers he updated details not updated for at least 2 weeks.

Fingers crossed for him getting up-to-date soon...(and hopefully the 'rebirth' of a real international chart per movie.... too)

Disney projects its first billion-dollar summer at North American box office on $1.088B from May 1-Sept. 7.

History of billion-dollar summers:

2008: WB is first studio to ever have a $1B summer, with $1.01B (w/ New Line now part of WB)

2009: WB gets to $1B

2011: Paramount (inc. DreamWorks) comes within $2m of $1B - but just misses it

2015: Universal breaks $1B for first time, then breaks WB's 2008 record, ends up with first summer total over $1.5B; now, Disney also beats the 2008 WB record.

Universal+Disney took in over 60% of the total summer BO receipts. I made a joke in a previous thread about how this summer looked like the Disney/Universal theme park wars spilled over into the box office...yeah, that's what this summer essentially was.

As good as the rest of Looking for Alaska is the ending is kind of a mess.
