Didn't Deadline give us a 62m weekend for Dory this time last week? Yeah, they pull these early Friday projections straight from thin air these days.

THR also says $12-14m for Purge and $8m or so for BFG and Tarzan Friday

With the long Holiday w/e where many take off Friday as well and school being completely out now it makes sense why previews numbers should be bigger than normal in comparison to Friday

THR's projecting north of 50 mil for Dory this weekend. That would be insane

Will be overjoyed if it actually happens, but too early to get excited. If it does do that for the 3 day though, I'd say TDK DOM is going down.

I'm a little late but great number for The Purge 3. Universal should be enjoying a profit with it right before their animated film Secret Life Of Pets next weekend, and Jason Bourne later this month. Either way still bleh for Tarzan, it should go about anywhere from $25 million to $30 million 3-day this weekend but should die off quick. Unsure about The BFG, its main audience(families) flocks on the weekend anyway.

Ok, I admit, I am massively disappointed with the numbers for The BFG.  Looks like Spielberg isn't a guaranteed draw anymore :(

He has not been a guaranteed draw for a long time. He does not have many flops, because he keeps his budgets down, but Indy Jones 4 was the last real blockbuster he had. A lot of his films break even,or make a small profit.

If this was a decade ago, Tarzan would have been a sucessful tentpole for this type of weekend. But the film looks very CGI, and features way too much CGI. Tarzan is pure CGI porn(haven't seen it yet but it looks like it).

Which means a good deal  of the family audience is ignoring the BFG in favor of Seeing Dory or seeing it for the second time.

But the Mouse still wins.......

I don't think live action Tarzan is a big movie draw period though. The last attempts with the 80's films weren't all that big. Like 100 adjusted is all.

Either way The BFG was going to get demolished by Dory and completion no matter what time it was released. Speilberg is a mixed bag at the box office but makes popularity nowadays with films nominated for awards. Nothing will be the blockbuster like Jaws, Jurassic Park 1 & 2, or Minority Report.

Yes, poor Spielberg and the hundreds of millions Indy 5 and Ready Player One will make.

Most of his recent output hasnt been blockbuster material. Lincoln made 180mil, which is more impressive than Indy 4 hitting 300.

I don't see how they should be exempt from disappointment. Not that it matters to Spielberg's legacy at this point.

RPO? That's debatable. But Indy 5? C'mon! That's 100% guaranteed to be above Raiders (although Crystal Skull numbers are currently debatable).
