Because thes days the estimated number is what gets reported on the most. They're generally pretty close to what the actuals end up being so most people don't worry about how much a movie actually ended up making. 

 

And unlike us, most of the GA doesn't have a clue what a movie makes on a daily basis.

$500m or not, Dory has had an AMAZING run, even if it's not setting the world on fire overseas. MU never really recovered after DM2 hit it, and it looks like Dory may be down the same path, but the hard fight is over, and a $475-485m finish is amazing for it. 

 

Now watch Cars 3 pull less than $150m next summer.

The run for Alice 2 should brace Disney for what's coming with Pirates 5 and Cars 3 next year.
