There's a segment of the X-men fanbase who are dissatisfied and want a more colorful and fun-filled X-men movies.

and Apocalypse was basically that, very colorful and fun-filled*, a film that checked throughout almost every long time fan demand.

Fox doesn't need to do anything other than letting a creative voice be, you know... creative. We just had a great movie two years ago, which was the biggest movie in the series. But I know the people who greenlight those things don't think that way, so they will deadpool the hell out of it, and hopefully that will kill the franchise for good.

Really good OD for Bourne. It was totally set up to be a 200+ hit, but then they had to go and make a lackluster movie on us. That's pretty horrid for Star Trek, unless it has a miraculously great Sat bump. Pets starting to show some killer legs, maybe looking at a 30% drop for the weekend. Would be crazy if it hit 400, but Pete and Kubo will probably kabosh any chance for that.

It's really not lackluster tbh. My audience really enjoyed it at least and definitely one of the better summer blockbusters for me (up there with Ghostbusters, Beyond, Conjuring 2, and Civil War) (not counting the animated ones of course)

Finally figured out exactly why Suicide Squad is gonna blow up regardless of it's marketing (which is good): this summer has been awful in scheduling blockbusters that teenagers and young adults would be interested in. I mean look at the past few weeks:

July 8 - Secret Life of Pets: primarily for kids although some teen audience

July 15 - Ghostbusters: nostalgia crowd for the old movies, plus McCarthy's usual older audience

July 22 - Star Trek Beyond: always an older skewing franchise

July 29 - Jason Bourne: it's a sequel to a 9-year-old movie

Suicide Squad is the first thing coming out that's actually being made for young adults despite the other ones obviously having crossover appeal.

In other news, I hope Sausage Party does well :P

Bourne Franchise, adjusted :

The Bourne Identity (2002) :     181m

The Bourne Supremacy (2004):  245m

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) :  286m

Jason Bourne's attendance drop will

be totally normal. Better than the MI movies I think even

Ghostbusters was playing better to the younger crowd. B+ Cinemascore with an A- from the younger than 25 crowd which means a lower score from the older crowd.

Totally agree. The 13-25 audience is going to be out in droves next weekend for SS, and let's be honest that's still the audience that matters the most when we're talking blockbusters. A Civil War sized OW or possibly bigger is coming folks.

I think that's insane.  I don't think it goes past 140.

I honestly don't believe in CinemaScore :P I know anecdotal is probably on the same level as the meh CinemaScore but most people who I know wanted to see Ghostbusters were fans of the original, so either film nerds like me or older people than usual for these blockbusters

Suicide Squad is a DC movie with uncertain critical reception following a DC movie with some lousy critical reception.

And I don't think there's anyway it goes under 140, so I guess we're at odds here lol.

How the heck do you see it opening higher than BvS?

A truly brilliant year long marketing campaign primarily. Curiosity for Leto's Joker, the Joker was always going to be a huge draw on OW even if he's not well received. Lack of big summer hits among the teen/YA audience like Blanks said. Soundtrack already exploded over a month prior to release. All buzz and tracking indicators have been strong for months now, particularly impressive for a non-sequel CBM without a well known lead character. Suggests walk ups could be big. If it truly gets panned when the embargo lifts, maybe I'll lower my expectations. But until then, hello top 10 OW.

Lol, wasn't that a Christian based film though? Haven't seen either but I doubt it has much in common with Bad Moms. :P

Yeah I've just seen the trailer but from the looks of it hi-jinks ensue while the mothers step away from their dutities and their husbands watch their kids. Like seriously ?

Good weekend at the bo. No animation/CBM openers but still both of them are wins.

BORN5's preview::OD ratio is better than MI5 and STB even using 22.5M Friday.

It will could match it's budget by the 2nd Discount Tuesday - 61 (ow) + 23.5 (mon-thu) + 28.5 (2nd weekend) + 3.6 (2nd mon) + 4.4 (2nd tue)  = 121M cume

BAD MOMS could do 27-30M which would put it on track for 90-110M possibly beating the likes of IDR and CONJ2.
