DEAD LINE NOW: ‘Sausage Party’ Is A Box Office Hot Dog, Heating Up $30M-$32M Weekend; ‘Suicide Squad’ At Est. $44M

2ND UPDATE, 12:30PM: Refresh for updates Sony/Annapurna’s Sausage Party is pulling in a lot of attendees. Based off of Friday matinees, the Seth Rogen-Evan Goldberg production is pulling in an estimated $13M Friday on it way to $30M-$32M.  Excellent for this film which cost an estimated $19M.

Looks like Sausage Party‘s festivities are cutting into Suicide Squad‘s business.  While that film will pull in just over $13M for Friday, industry estimates have it at a $44M. If that figure holds, that’s a 67% drop, which is 2% higher than Batman v. Superman‘s -69% sophomore weekend drop. I hear matinees on Suicide Squad are down 93% and that doesn’t for the $20.5M amount of business the DC villain film did on Thursday.

Disney’s Pete’s Dragon looks to fly in with $7.5M estimated Friday on track for a $21M-$23M weekend. The film cost an estimated $65M before P&A.  Paramount’s Florence Foster Jenkins looks to be coming in at its projections with a $2.5M Friday, $5.5M-$6M opening weekend.

the 11:50am (which I attended) and 2:30pm sold a combined 48 tickets.  that's petty darn good for this demo.  night crowd will be ferocious.  seeing a lot of sell-outs around me, but not at my theater yet... but they are coming.

SS getting a BvS like second weekend drop.

DC fans getting pissed and screaming murder wanting to burn down Marvel Studios and nuke all the critics.

No one really cares about any numbers from Deadline at noon on a Friday.

I couldn't tell if you were joking or serious Dex. But yeah in the context of SP it does raise eyebrows. But its funny how something so innocent from the past be construed as hyper sexual in this era.

I think Deadline is lowballing a bit, but Sun to Thursday drop for Suicide Squad (73%) was pretty similar to those of Bourne (75%) and Star Trek Beyond (74%) over the past two weeks. A bit over 13M like they are reporting would fall between the Friday increases of those two films as well. Based on that, I'm guessing $46-48M unless Friday's bumped over $14M.

Boy, I sure do love matinee-based analysis on hard-R rated movies.

Even 44m would be a good weekend. Better hold than BVS despite summer weekdays making a bigger % of OW:

BVS did 166 OW and made 43.1 Mon-Thu. Weekdays are 26% of OW.

SS did 133.7 OW and made 45.4 Mon-Thu. Weekdays are 34% of OW.

With 44m weekend taking it to 223, very unlikely that it would fall below 300m.

Edit: SS is well on track to displace AUJ and become the #7 biggest WB film behind 2 TDKs, 2 Potters, BVS and Sniper (not in that order). Could have a shot at Potter 1's 317.6m too but time will tell.
