Weekend Numbers: Thursday Previews - INFERNO: $800k

Recommended Posts

I'm not surprised Madea won the weekend. I liked the movie overall, and that Lionsgate needed a big hit. I'm surprised at its amazing Saturday jumps. Trolls and Doctor Strange are off to solid starts overseas, and should do solid results here on Friday. November 2016 will be quite solid.

Another disappointment for Sony.

At least they had Sausage Party and successful Christian and horror films this year.

They had Risen, Miracles From Heaven, Money Monster, Angry Birds, Shallows, Sausage Party, and Don't Breathe. The flops were Brothers Grimsby, Pride & Prejudice, Ghostbusters, Mag 7, and Inferno now. They have Billy Lynn and Passengers to bring in solid results for the holiday season.

This October, with one day left, has actually managed to outgross 2013 and will end up close to 2012. I assume it helped that October 1-2 were Saturday and Sunday, so we almost got five weekends when in 2013 there were strictly four.

Who knows how Billy Lynn is going to do really. It's not getting great buzz and its genre will turn off a lot of moviegoers.

Passengers will do Interstellar numbers at its very best given that it's a week after Rogue One. The prestige space films of the past few years had no competition in the sci-fi realm while Passengers does. That will probably still be decent for it though.

MGM provided most of the budget for Mag 7.  It shouldn't be a big money loser, at least not to Sony.  Inferno will make up its disappointing domestic run with good overseas numbers.

Now I'm getting to the part where we restrained ourselves from TDS2 gifs :kitschjob:

The TDS2 gif spam was atrocious. I lost count of how many times my tablet crashed trying to load a page because of it (and I had just moved to my new apartment and hadn't had my PC set up yet so the tablet was all I had).
