Weekend Numbers: Thursday Previews - INFERNO: $800k

Recommended Posts

I know that this franchise has lost all of its mojo, but as someone who distinctly remembers being amazed when the Friday estimate for Da Vinci Code came in at nearly $30 million, the possibility that Inferno could go as low as $5-6 million is flabbergasting.

Well, the middle-of-the-road box office performance leaves Bond in limbo.

It doesn't help that this year's November/December lineup looks far more inticing (in terms of BO potential). November 2016 should finish much stronger than 2015 and Passengers/Sing should help minimize most of the dropoff between last December and this December.

Spectre movie almost a billion worldwide. It was very successful. The Bond franchise is only in "limbo" because Daniel Craig is said to have wanted out of the series, and the producers are probably trying to get him, and plan the next film.

Howard had a poor run of films lately but I consider this as a write off. The interest is just not there and marketing was poor. You are not going to call it as a disastrous move for Hanks, so it shouldn't be the case for Howard either. OS numbers are decent to save face. Would be cool if this opened mid 20s like the other adult skewing films the past three weeks. Four way showdown with Accountant #1, Girl and Reacher battle for second and Inferno collapsing badly.

docudrama?

No, it's a historical drama... jeez. Just because it's set in space (which by the way is a real place) doesn't make it science fiction.

Science fiction is about fictional science, not fiction/dramatisation that relates to scientific news/stories. Especially when it's a real story.

Yeah, I get that side of what sci-fi is supposed to be and all, but, to me, the name "sci-fi" indicates literally science fiction. It is a personal preference of mine to call these space travel type films as sci-fi, even if they are technically historical dramas like Apollo 13. To me it doesn't matter, they're works of fiction based on science (no, no it's not just because they're in space - which btw, oh shit, it's a real place, you don't say -, it's because of the scientific thematics attached to the film), therefore, they should count under a genre that is known as "science fiction". I can definitely see a separation between a real-life story like Apollo 13 and an out there creation like Alien or Interstellar, I just happen to categorize them under the same genre. But I see your pov and I know there's a ton of people that are gonna be like "YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SCI-FI YOU JIEGJIRJ9IJRGOJIFJIDJFIJFK", so I'm just wanna leave it that.

I'm pretty sure there's some people out there that don't consider Gravity a sci-fi either, and while I'm inclined to say it's actually kind of an unconventional action movie, I also totally disagree w/that perspective.

But APOLLO 13 isn't fiction either. I mean, terms and definitions are there for a reason.

I KNOW, but Apollo 13 THE MOVIE is a work of fiction, based on a real event sure but it's still fictionalized anyway, therefore I co......

Argh, whatever, you guys win, I'll take it into account as a drama from now onwards. Buncha pleasure breakers, ya'll
