I'm curious what would have happened if Strange and Beasts swapped release dates.

Are you suggesting the Sorcerer Supreme stole away some of the Fantastic Beast's magic?

I think period pieces are just a hard sell.

What's the last blockbuster to take place during the prohibition era?

The Untouchables in 1987?

Even a $60m opening isn't a bomb for this as it will and is performing very well overseas, but it certainly might make Warner Bros. go back to a 3 film series.

Or replace Yates hopefully.....

4 WB blockbusters next year take place 50, 70, 90 and 1500 years from now.

5 films for a Fantastic Beasts series always seemed kind of silly

It reeked and still does of Rowling not knowing how to edit herself, just like the last few Potter books, and hubris on the part of Warner Bros. I'd always hoped it went back to three. Three seemed manageable. And, hell, if it'd stayed three, maybe the first installment would've been more focused instead of fits and starts of brilliance but mostly a muddled mess.
