Moana's previews and OD numbers flattered to deceive in the end. From a potential "better than Frozen" opening to more than 12M below it by the end of the weekend.

 

Legs will be interesting to follow, don't think this hits anywhere near Frozen's multiplier (the calendar helped Frozen hit the holidays early into its run as well, Moana is 5 days behind it due to Thanksgiving being a week earlier). 

 

Toy Story 2 should be a good guide IMO, similar openings and calendar configurations. Rogue One and Sing are the wild cards for legs, last year MJ2 and Spectre were looking like they would easily hit 300 and 200 before TFA opened.

Let's give some more credit to Moana, too. $80M+ is obviously a feat, especially given its somewhat muted pre-release buzz and marketing.

Moana keeps being compared to Frozen is kinda like it having an overachieving sister who always overshadows her. ?

Exactly. It's crazy. 

Nobody was going "oh well, it's no Lion King" - after week one of Frozen's run. Let's see how it plays out.

The movie is fantastic. It's going to do great, right through the Christmas holidays. 

 

So many on here quick to judge a movie after mere days. See last week when Beasts was barely going to sneak over $200 million.

Yeah, I don't get comparisons to Frozen either. Frozen had a signature song that was a big selling point and a rather generic Princess story understandable to everyone rather than a specific culture flavored one. I'm not putting down Frozen just pointing out stuff that enhanced its cross-appeal at least initially (we still don't know how Moana will perform beyond opening, could develop crazy legs).   

 

Great for Moana any way you slice it, ditto FB. Now brace yourselves for post-holiday slump before holiday jump. :)

 

So is DS crossing 700M? :needs pray emotiocon:

warren beatty is quite the egoist so finding out no one gives a shit about him any more must be a real hit. seriously one of the most forgotten a-listers of his era. NO ONE from my generation gives a shit about Warren Beatty. Newman, Nicholson, Redford etc y'know still get some love at least.
