Roger Friedman seems to be a legit journalist.  So that 40 mill looks like it could be true.  If it did 40 million in previews, I'll admit defeat on the under 450 club.

He is a HACK.  he was fired by FOX for reviewing Wolverine from a leaked tape. He has no credibility

I like Strangelove and Path Of Glory most. But, yeah, 2001 is bonkers good. And, yeah, pretty much all of his stuff is masterclass or bordering on masterclass.

He's the greatest ever and it's not that close. Hitchcock had similar control of the audience's emotion, but he stuck to his comfort zone. Kubrick was all over the place in different genres and providing his own unique spin to each genre.

Why not? Some people don't know or don't care what a movie did back in time. They put the disc in, see the Tauntaun moving all herky-jerky and think to himself "that looks bad" and he would actually not be wrong.

I don't believe he'd be right either. It's an unfair judgment, because calling them bad because interstellar is better is a false equivalency. 40 years of advancement means effects get better, that doesn't make movies made 40 years ago suddenly have poorly done special effects, which is what bad effects means.

Quote

Among regular ranked movies last night, Disney’s Moana was tops with $1.3M and a three week-running cume of $150.2M. Paramount/DreamWorks/Reliance’s Office Christmas Party was close behind in second with $1.29M at 3,210 theaters, and a first week’s take of $23M. The R-rated party movie is expected to ring up $7.6M, -55% in its second weekend for a 10-day cume of $30.6M.

Critcising ANH for having "out of date" effects would be like criticizing the Vikings for being poor at warfare because axes and swords "are out of date" and so they don't compare to a modern soldier.

Well, Vikings wouldn't win any fights today, would they? Doesn't detract from the courage of their soldiers.

6 years ago when new moon had 30 million dollar midnight it was the greatest thing in the history of box office at the time LOL. Now world one gets 29 million and some here, very few mind you, but some here are calling it disappointing LOL. I personally think it's a fantastic number and it puts it on Pace for around 130 - 140 million opening weekend.
