Avatar still wins against TFA OS with exchange rates, but it doesn't seem to be by nearly as much as it appears when you don't factor that in.

Market expansion and inflation has to be taken into account if exchange rate is. China was many times larger in 2015 than 2010, Avatar's performance in 2010 may be roughly equivalent of a 1B US dollar performance in 2015, not saying it would under this imaginery scenerio, but would not be fair to consider exchange but not Market size change.

Avatar OS >>>>>TFA OS under any proper comparison.

Seeing RO with mom in an hour and now I'm afraid shes not going to enjoy it...is there at least good action to keep her entertained? Or is it more dialouge and jargon heavy?

The action is steady throughout and goes into hyperdrive for the third act. I really don't get why some say the film is slow. Time flew by when I saw it.

The new characters/actors in TFA are more memorable and likable than any other new characters from a blockbuster of this decade, imo. I think they're the reason TFA will hold up and not fall victim to its re-hashiness of ANH

It's hard not to like Finn, didn't like Rey though!

This is tangentially tied to Star Wars, but whenever I see Lab Rats before Star Wars: Rebels, I always think of Tele.

Check the SW:Rebels thread and/or the spoiler thread.  There's a Rebels related piece of news you'll probably like. :)

I saw it on the Leaks reddit, and yes I am very very excited. Thanks for letting me know. :)

Why is it so hard to say that TFA performed astonishingly well domestically and deserves its #1 domestic ranking, and also say that AVATAR performed astonishingly well overseas and also completely deserves its OS and WW #1 ranking?

It takes nothing away from either movie to say this.

But, but, but my movie is better than yours.

Manchester by the Sea was deplorable, emotionnaly manipulative but most of all, absolutely inconsequential.

The fact that it has been chosen by the 1% as THE movie of 2016 shows how everything is broken in modern cinema.

Manchester by the Sea will make you think Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu is a subtle fillmmaker, it takes misery porn to new, laughable heights.

Casey Affleck will win his Oscah for looking constipated for 2h17minutes, which is what he does best so good thinking from the casting director, guy always had that sad puppy look on his face, he was a perfect match for this drab, dreary & tiny affair.

Since we're discussing Avatar, yes, it did in fact make more money than TFA. Shocking, I know. But the most interesting thing to me is that a movie grossing $2.7b+ worldwide has had so little of a cultural impact, at least here in America, anyway.

Sure, you have Avatar fans, but they're very sparse. It's like most people came, thought "oh, that was nice", and then didn't really think about it again.

This is just a theory, so don't jump on me, but don't you think it's possible that Avatar got more people concerned about the earth and climate change? It seems right around that time was when the environmental movement really began to pick up momentum.
