LOL as if a Denzel movie released in 2200 theaters would make only 1.3M in one day. The guy has a rock solid fanbase and is a reliable opener as it gets.

Fences was doing shit numbers in limited cause it wasn't available to Denzel fandom plus he and his movie are too mainstream for arthouse crowd that supports movies in limited. But it was expected that it'd do great once it went wide. Unlike Moonlight which is a typical arthouse movie posting sky high numbers in limited, that never crosses over to mainstream when going wider.

Is that a shit number for LLL or a great one? How wide did it go?

True.

It's a good number for LLL.

As an European I'm shocked that movies are making so much money during christmas. I thought the USA were more christian/family oriented.

Movie going is a huge family activity in the states on Christmas day / weekends Always has been, but then again the US has always been more movie going focused than the rest of the world. I would imagine that Christmas falling on Sunday probably dents it a little bit as far as early afternoon showings or even later Christmas Eve due to Church services, but not enough to make the theaters close.

Is 32 million for RO on Monday a bit generous?

It is busier then yesterday though here in Canada.

It is definitely within the margin of error. I could see it going a bit higher - at one point last week one of my projects had it at 39(!) for the best case and 28m for the worst case so that 31/32 is perfectly within normal ranges.

People go to the movies with their families at Christmastime (multiple generations in groups are a very common sight at our theaters this time of year), or to escape all the family togetherness if your relatives drive you crazy. If you go to church on Christmas Eve, that leaves Christmas Day free for other things. And you have many people who don't celebrate Christmas but still have lots of time off...

If the number holds its back on track towards 550 million.

Russia is frontloaded market. That number is ok more than anything

Interstellar opened with $8m back in 2014, when US $1 = 46.416 Rouble. Passengers is opening with $6.6m when US $1 = 62.065 Rouble. It is a pretty good start, even if it end being front-loaded.

Oof. That's pretty bad for Live By Night :(

Not a limited release movie. It should do at least fine when it goes wide next month.

And it looks like a hit next to A Monster Calls (should've kept it as an October wide release, Focus), so...
