filmlover
After finally seeing Call Me by Your Name, I'll be very surprised if it gets Carol'd. It's definitely a much warmer and more dream-like film that voters won't have much difficulty gravitating towards.
Webslinger
I like Darkest Hour's chances better after seeing it. It's stodgy as all get-up, but it will appeal to the "They don't make 'em like they used to!" segment of the Academy, and that could be enough to get it over the hump.

Reception's inflated right now because people are getting caught off guard by a horror movie having blunt social commentary, but once they've thought about it for more than two seconds they'll realize it's just a weak haunted house/stepford wives riff with racism theme window dressing that doesn't even deliver that with any conviction. Apologies in advance, but you can expect this to be a thing for me this year. of all the hindsight lols this is my fav.

(Sound Editing, Sound Mixing) Wonder (Adapted Screenplay, Makeup) I'm predicting a CMBYN snub in Picture now. The movie has lost a lot of momentum, and its nomination potential is below what Carol had. Likewise, I'm ditching Franco in Actor because The Disaster Artist came and went. He's definitely still in the running for a nomination though, and the last three spots could be any combo of him, Kaluuya, and Hanks (maybe even Denzel) Darkest Hour is back on the rise with that amazing box office. I think Focus will be getting both of their main pushes six nominations.

It has no heat of any kind in half the categories you're predicting. Actor: DDL is a given Supporting Actress: I think Manville can surprise here. I would be shocked if Hong Chau made it in with how much Downsizing is flopping, which basically leaves the last two spots between Manville, Spencer, and Blige. Original Screenplay: The last spot is between this, SOW, and The Big Sick. The writing branch loves PTA as evident by Inherent Vice's nomination a few years back (let's not forget Gone Girl was somehow snubbed), so the path to a nomination here is rather easy if it can beat the competition. Score: It's in contention for the win. Costume Design: Duh. All this leads to Picture where it should have enough support.
filmlover
I can see Chau making it into Supporting Actress even with Downsizing being a total no1curr otherwise. Golden Globe + SAG shows that support is definitely there for her. And she's easily the best thing about the movie, as little as that means. My predictions there are her, Hunter, Janney, Metcalfe, and Spencer.
That One Girl
I would bet money on Chau missing it.
SLAM!
I think the Netflix situation could cause a Blige snub if enough people in the acting branch care. We'll see. Personally, for the Netflix reason alone, I would personally like to see someone else there.
BK007
Just wanted to pop in and say that the faux outrage for any Wonder Woman snubs for any category is a joke. Wonder Woman is really only praised because it's supposed to be a female led, driven whatever movie- all except that it is basically the same damn superhero movie as all the rest. Spare me the where is our Black Panther nominations?! next year. Just as ridiculous as the Deadpool lovefest- basically the same movie except with swearing. It is incredulous how superhero pandering seems to have seeped into cultural consciousness in America/English speaking nations.

The movie was a text book ok-ish superhero origins movie , not even a great one the fact that box office and political/social themes ( WW / Get out / Darkest Hour ) make an otherwise completely mediocre movie an instant masterpiece is just sad

stripe
What will be the gross for the BP contenders before nominatios are announced? And after Oscars? Last year we had 3 movies over 100M, all of these reached the mark after noms. The average gross for the BP contenders last year was 77M (53M prior to noms) I would say this year is better BO wise. DOM gross before noms Dunkirk - 188M Get Out - 175M The Post - 50M Lady Bird - 40M Darkest Hour - 40M Shape of Water - 30M Three Billboards - 25M Call Me By Your Name - 7M 69M average gross more or less the day noms are announced. Let's see how much more fuel these movies have in the tank after noms.
