I think we have to move towards comparisons to Titanic rather than TFA or F7 for total OS

The lack of completeness in term of data for Titanic OS run make it hard for us to compare IW to Titanic.

TFA and F7 or even JW is much more easier to track and compare

Disney/Marvel has no right in deciding their release data, it's China film Bureau to make the call.

But breaking the WW OW record by 300 instead of 100 is sooooo important — they should have just delayed it to May 11 everywhere /s

I guess disney/marvel cares more about the final total instead of opening record.

May 1 is a public holiday almost everywhere in the earth, and deadpool 2 is coming on 17/18 May.

Opening record was just some marketing stunt for a film to gain publicity or branding. Not really have an direct impact for financial figures.

Up to Friday it made $178,5 so it's almost a lock to break the WW OW without China. simply amazing.

It’s not almost anymore with a 83.5M Friday OS. It is locked. And will break it with ease too.

Even with a modest 10% rise on Saturday (92m) and a 30% drop on Sunday (64.5) gives us a OS total of 335. Add a realistic 240 from Dom gives us 575 which is comfortably over F7 by 34 million. You can even reduce dom to 235 and have it stay flat from Friday and have a 40% drop on Sunday and it still takes the record.

So yeah it is definitely taking that record easily

It would have to face competition from Deadpool 2 a week later. Not ideal.

Turkey OD: 244.363 admissions, 3.777.551 local currency, about 935.037 USD.

Highest grossing OD for a Hollywood movie in local currency. Highest admissions in OD for a Hollywood movie. I don't have the lc numbers but Furious 7 had 218.085 admissions, F8 had 201.696, Age of Ultron had 201.262. Those are were the only Hollywood ODs in the top 20. Beat the admissions OD record by %12, definitely more in lc due to 3 years of inflation.

Although F7's USD OD is probably better due to terrible exchange rate. If it follows F7's OD to OW multiplier, it'd get 876.478 admissions in 3-day FSS OW. F7's Sat increase is nothing special but Sun hold is great. We'll see if AIW can do it. I'd expect a better Sat but really worse Sun. Matters how much bigger Sat could be. However, 876.478 adm in OW would beat F7's by almost 93k and would be the 10th best OW by admissions ever. Even higher in local currency due to Imax/3D/4D screens it has that local movies don't & inflation. I think it'll beat F7 but I don't know about 93k more admissions. However, this movie unbelievably overperformed in its OD so we can't be sure yet.

If, somehow, it gets to that OW admissions mark, with OD's avg ticket price, it'd get to 13.541.585 OW in local currency. That's %92 of CW's entire run, %87 of AOU's entire run. AOU did 2.205.205$ OW, CW did 2.133.429$ OW. That admissions number would mean 3.351.877$ OW for AIW. Probably lower than that but still. If it had AOU's OD exchange rate it would make 5m$ OW which is only 800k$ from AOU's entire run. If it had Avengers' OD exchange rate, it would have made 7.700.000$ which would have made it the 7th highest grossing Hollywood movie in USD in its OW already.

So yeah, unbelievable OD and just insane how much it overperformed relative to previous MCU movies. Only 2 MCU movies are in top 40 all-time Hollywood movies by admissions. It won't get there in USD but very good chance to be the biggest Hollywood movie of all time both in admissions and in local currency. Best MCU movie was AOU in this regard at #21.

Only an OD report but couldn't stop writing at how great of a number it is considering the biggest SH movie of all time was BvS in Turkey (well, it's still is but is locked to get passed by AIW) and MCU wasn't dominant at all with regards to other Hollywood franchises. Small market, sure, but reflects the trend of its OD records, OW overperformance and hype, looking to possibly be the biggest Hollywood movie of all time (too soon to tell for sure) in a country where local movies dominate and MCU isn't dominant even within Hollywood franchises itself. Truly a global event this OW WW is.

Is there any country where this won't debut at #1 ? I remember a thread looking for a movie which debuted at #1 everywhere and no movie qualified.

Actually it may only debut #2 in Japan in admissions.
