Following the better-than-expected debut of The Meg last weekend, fellow Warner Bros. film Crazy Rich Asians is now tracking to post a five-day debut of $26 million-plus, according to the latest prerelease surveys. That's up from $20 million several weeks ago.

Many box-office observers believe that Crazy Rich Asians will outperform tracking and do even more crazy great business.

From STX Entertainment, Mile 22 is tracking to open in the $17 million to $18 million range. If that proves correct, the action-thriller could find itself in a close race for No. 2 with The Meg, which debuted to $45.4 million.

Alpha, one of the first films from Jeff Robinov's Studio 8, is tracking to open in the $7 million range.

Ok, maybe I'm missing something but 20-26M for freakin 5 days is low or?

Last couple of weeks I thought it was breaking out higher but I didn't know about last weeks Preview shows which were sold not free.  Numbers last week peaked for that then, dropped hard the day after - then built up again but now the pace is well off Oceans 8 and Mama Mia since it's a Wed opener.

Thanks! I guess we are in for a rollercoaster between celebrations and bad Crazy Flop Asians jokes.

CRA is gonna be a weird one. I'm in a major city, and the dominant, nicest theater is literally almost sold out for the most popular showtimes, and has a fair amount of tickets even at unpopular showtimes. Then I look across town and the theater almost hasn't sold a ticket yet.

What chain is the dominant one (and the not dominant one)?

Both AMCs, one is just the top theater in the metro area, the other in a suburb.

Are both on Atom?  I ask b/c Atom has a huge presale deal that gives you a bigger and bigger discount for more tickets...(Although, being the same chain, I'd assume they are).  That'd be a bennie (that might affect presales) above both being on the A-list subscriber plans...

Sound likely to be the next Meg / Equalizer 2 tracking beater, but will see.

Current Fandango comps (MM2 and O8 on their Weds) would have Wed at $4.5-5m - with the usual 5.5-6 multi that would mean  $24.75 -$30m - around where tracking has it right now.

Probably the best comparable possible to use right there, will see which from a big movie sequel vs books with a fanbase/hype will be the more pre-sales heavy.

Did MM2 and 08 launched very similar in preview vs pre-sales amount ?, I guess I should start doing some work now using the amount of nice pulse data there is.
