Another quick update. Toy Story 4 should go over 3K tickets sold before midnight PST and that is less than half day PS. it should slow down after this but I wonder if it can go above 4K by 1PM tomorrow which would be 24 hours of PS.

 

Zilla looks like finishing around 6K sales for tuesday.

IMO, the best comp of movies I have tracked will be Fallen Kingdom.  I also have comps with the Aladdin and Detective Pikachu as something as a compare/contrast with current May movies.  They may not be as good comps, being in different genres.

 

Unadjusted Comps

0.9171x as many tickets sold as Detective Pikachu 2 days before release. 

0.8499x as many tickets sold as Aladdin 2 days before release.

 

T-2:

Pika        300 tickets sold  [0 sellouts/101 showings   |   7619/9404 seats left    | 18.98% sold]

Aladdin   298 tickets sold  [0 sellouts/116 showings   | 11970/13896 seats left  | 13.86% sold]

 

Adjusted Comps

.4366x as many tickets sold as Fallen Kingdom 2 days before release.       

ADJUSTMENT NOTE: If a theater locally that is now selling tickets for reserved seating was selling them for the above movies, but as non-reserved seating for that movie, it is not counted toward the ratio of 'as many tickets sold' for the movie in question.  If a theater is brand new to the region and wasn't yet open for one of the above movies, however, it will be counted toward the ratio.  It will also be counted toward the ratio if it was playing in a different number of theaters locally.

 

T-2:

JW2             551 tickets sold [0 sellouts/145 showings | 10171/13595 seats left   |  25.19% sold]

KotM (JW)    186 tickets sold [0 sellouts/120 showings | 11911/13406 seats left   |  11.15% sold]

KotM (JW) is the number of tickets sold at the same theaters I had tracking info for Fallen Kingdom.

No way to sugar coat it, just not a great day for KotM locally.  Low sales all across the board.  The small silver lining is that screen expansion happened late in the day.  But overall, just not great.  It did about 33% of JW:FK on the equivalent day.  Also behind both Aladdin and Pika Pika by around 30% (ie it did about 70% of both of those films).

 

Maybe it'll turn tomorrow but right now the walk ups ain't there yet. 

 

I'm not posting the 24 hour Fandango update, as @keysersoze123 has already posted it.  But KotM finished at 5795 for the 24 hour period.  That's 48.14% of the equivalent day for JW:FK.

 

Which is... actually what KotM needs to get, IMO.

 

So if folks want to be cheered up, look to Fandango nationally and just ignore Sacto.  For today at least.

• It's doing fine in NYC, but locally WTF. I checked to see if it's just Thursday Previews. Nope. It's only sold 12 tickets for the whole weekend (6 for Friday 7PM, 6 for Saturday 7PM).  So, we're about to see how Walk Up Crazy my theater is, or... Hmm.  We will see.

Godzilla:

• Still ridiculously IMAX dependent.  LS13 only has 26 Non-IMAX tickets purchased.  SMCM IMAX has 6 purchased (the two non-IMAX theaters have 21 tickets sold).

Toy Story 4

• Good start at Lincoln Square.  I dug up the AEG, and, LOL, I can't believe AEG sold 3900+ tickets on its first day at Lincoln Square.  
• LMFAO at that seat count at the SMCM.  Who are you fooling?

Well, I'm...somewhat justified here. With an average somewhere in the 50s or 60s, it's not necessarily a great opening, but better than the more dire results from yesterday. Hoping this leads to even better results tomorrow.

It's tracking went up and most of the Fandango comps are favorable. 60+ is a win.

However, being only slighly under 3,000 is still a fantastic number, especially for a Pixar property that doesn't quite have the same level of pent-up demand and excitement Incredibles 2 had.
