The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

8:00 Kingsman is ending with 18 tickets, so that's about 80 tickets total for tonight. Obviously it isn't terrible, but it makes me think the weekend's roof isn't much higher than 40M. I'll do a Friday report in about an hour or two, but first, I'm waiting to see if the 8:15 FR can manage to sell anything

It's no IT, but faring better at my theater for sure (will update soon, should do more than 50% IT), but I do wonder if the run-time is just too much for a non-summer Thursday.

It is selling well enough on Fandango though - ~50 tickets per minute for me since 5pm

Kingsman managed to limp over 4k theaters, so that's three films in 4k+ theaters this weekend :jeb!:  HUGE drops for THB, WR, Leap, Annabelle, Dunkirk, LL, and TDT.

Friend Request sold NOTHING tonight    These are the worst previews for ANY film this year here! I'm seriously wondering if this thing can go below 2M.

giphy.gif

Probably - so far my local has sold zero and my mall has sold 6 tickets...so its previews are probably gonna be so low as to not bother being reported...it can still rebound a little on typical Fri/Sat night horror, but unless Moviepass holders get bored, this is looking bad (too bad that probably means you'll win our Casino bet, but then again, mother! still could go low, too...although that low would be hard:)...

The bar for a horror fan to decide to stay up late on a Thursday has been raised this year I bet...plus can't imagine anyone past early 20s would watch this...

I've said this several times before, but Friend Request is the type of horror film tweens and teens under 17 go to see and have a riot with their friends, except this one is rated R and therefore off limits for that crowd. The older crowd sure as shit won't care about this, and if they do, what's stopping them from watching it online right now or importing a Blu-Ray?

I keep seeing Jeepers Creepers 3 tickets selling, how many theatres is it opening in next week? I've seen more sales for that than a I have for Friend Request or Flatliners.

It's a one night only Fathom Event, so it'll only make a few million at the most. However, maybe that's enough to beat FR

It did poorly over here when released and it had a lower rating. When I saw it opening night there where a few older people at it but that was it. No teens at all.

Kingsman comps:

165% of THB

35% of It

Ninjago is selling 20% of what Lego Batman was the day of. That only had like 40 more seats too, so it's definitely not a capacity issue

I'm thinking Ninjago will open with just over half of what LEGO Batman did at this point. It's been a while since there was a family film but the weak reviews and unpersuasive marketing are gonna pretty much alienate the adults/teens who went to see the other LEGO movies.

I'm veeeeeeeeeery tempted to lower my prediction to 30M (it's at 35M right now). Tracking has it as low as 31M, so it's not too much of a stretch.
