The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Baby Driver had some sellouts around me tonight. Surely gonna be frontloaded on some level but hoping for a total opening day of $7-8M, happy that it's not looking to be another The Nice Guys like I thought it would be.

I'm thinking it'll have a similar run to This is the End. The good news is that at least it won't flop. No secret it'll be frontloaded on Wednesday but its strong WOm should help it. After all, This is the End survived against strong competition (Man of Steel, WWZ/MU, The Heat, and DM3).

They are so stupid. They need to be fired for this.

I'm not sure theater management has control over this; theater bookers decide what movies go to which theaters, so they might have a say in scheduling too. But yeah, this wouldn't be an issue if the shuffing was kept in auditoriums of the same size. The smallest auditorium only has 60 seats vs an average one's 78, and there aren't many viable rows in it.

When BD sells out showings on Friday and The House has an empty house (pun intended), karma will bite those losers in the back. #BoyBye to them.

It looks like THE HOUSE and BABY DRIVER could very well fall the opposite of where people expected them to.

Pretty much. The House seemed like a winner on paper, but it's turning out to be the exact opposite.

I always knew The House was too wacky. Rough Night looked zany enough but The House looks even more nuts. The premise of starting a casino to pay for college makes no sense. They took a potentially relatable topic and made it completely unrelatable.

Also, Deadline is projecting a $12M opening weekend for The House. Ooooofffff. Thinking a Rough Night-esque opening is in the cards now.

My summer game takes another huge hit.

I thought The House trailer was decent, never considered adding Baby Driver to my top 15. :sadben:

THE HOUSE feels like it would have been big in, say, 2008.

To me, it looks like a PG-13 movie that was obviously turned into an R after the fact because studios are desperate for the next Wedding Crashers or Hangover or Bridesmaids.

I haven't bet anything. But it still seems unlikely to me.

If it does something like $6M+ for the first day I doubt it comes below $25-30M for the 5-day opening given the positive buzz. As someone said above, it looks like this and The House are gonna end up swapping theatrical runs.
