The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

MT now with another new release:

#1 RPO 31.4%
#2 ICOI 7.1%
#3 BP 6.3%
#4 Sherlock Gnomes 6%
#5 Acrimony 5.7% - I noticed that its tickets sales on Pulse improved a lot already yesterday with around 50/5 minutes during the night respectively in the early morning (American time).

Boxofficepro seems to think so...

Ready Player One Warner Bros. $36,000,000 $47,000,000 NEW
Tyler Perry’s Acrimony Lionsgate $17,000,000 $17,000,000 NEW
Black Panther Disney / Marvel $10,400,000 $649,800,000 -39%
I Can Only Imagine Roadside Attractions $10,300,000 $55,500,000 -24%
Pacific Rim: Uprising Universal $10,100,000 $47,700,000 -64%

Does ICOI have a small shot at pulling the upset of the year and grossing 100M DOM?

Not an upset in my view but I was in temptation to create a club like this. But no, that`s too high IMO. 75M maybe, that would be astonishing enough.
Edit #2: Or maybe rather 80M? 90M at a max. I have no idea how faith-based films behave after Easter or if this does matter in this case...But the three films combined (ICOI + Paul + GND 3) should achieve the 100M mark.

And by the way, yesterday the estimate of the HR for A Quiet Place was posted here (16-30M). I would also say that it will open on the higher end of expectations if not surprise even more...

I've been very very VERY quietly thinking that ever since I heard reports of mass buying sprees BEFORE release.

Century Arden has added a second Infinity War Opening Night Event showing.

I haven't seen that before here in Sacramento.  Not even for TLJ.

edit:  So has Century Blue Oaks.

---

I'm sure bigger metropolises have done this, and it's not like the Opening Night Fan Event is so established as to have a definitive pattern.  But this didn't happen for either TLJ or BP.

Makes me wonder if this is going to be a New Normal for mega Disney openers as a possibility.

Hey, there, everyone...

I'm not here regularly, but I've seen some chatter regarding MovieTiclets.com tracking and Fandango Pulse tracking.

A couple of months ago, I created some hourly reports that track this info for a completely different purpose.
Maybe it will help you out as well.

Fandango Pulse Pipeline (resets on Mondays)

No second shows added yet but there might be and no I haven't seen that before.

I hadn't even checked this event showing yet when counting (they show up separately) but just looked and in NYC there are so far 14 theaters doing one 6 pm showing  - 9 have reserved seats  and of those 8 are  complete sellouts or near sellouts with a handful of seats unsold (mostly wheelchair)

Well that's interesting.  Now you're making me curious.  Which, admittedly, isn't that hard to do.

Might check out LA or SF and see if there's any doubling going on.  Or if Disney cut Cinemark a deal after incessant whining they pointed out that Disney might be leaving money on the table.

...

Not sure what the other theaters in town that have the ONFE that hasn't sold out for them think about this, but I suppose that's their problem. ;)

Nope.  Found an AMC that has doubled up as well (along with a few more Cinemarks [under the Century brand name]) in the Bay Area.

So does look like something Disney is experimenting with this time along.
