I wonder if Sony will pull this from AFI in light of the recent Spacey stuff. Movie clearly now has major marketing hurdles.

"An AFI spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter that the festival's schedule is locked and that there won't be any changes."

Box office wise however, this movie's dead.

If it gets tepid or worse reviews at AFI, I fully expect Sony to just dump this with little fanfare in a few hundred theaters at best. This always seemed destined to be a casualty of the holidays even before the allegations came in IMO.

And today Sony got the news that MGM just signed a release deal with Annapurna films, meanng that Sony will almost certainly lose distribution rights to the 007 Franchise..it most valuable asset. Bad,bad, week for Sony.

Not sure about that.

Sony profit by entry:

Quantum of Solace: 22.65m

Skyfall: 57.3m

Spectre (expected) around 30m (28.55 at 845m WW, 32.23m at 925mm WW), would have reached a 10.2% ROI if it would have made over 1.5 billion Worldwide.

That what they made with that franchise between 2008 and 2018, a bit over 110m around 10m a year, and spending a huge amount to generate that profit.

Maybe they end up having a nice price for the product placement they do on the movie (but they still do compete and need to match the competition price) and make it quite valuable in that sense for Sony co. but for the movie studio I imagine Spiderman is more valuable than that (and Adam Sandler was more valuable than that during that timeframe for them).

Annapurna cannot distribute a movie worldwide or that new entity (could be mistaken but that is doubtful), that release date does not mean a major studio will not get involved. Sony deal was already not for every market in the past, MGM had over 10% of the intl bo under their control.

Everybody who covers the film industry is saying the loss of 007 would be a big blow to Sony films,so I will go with them.

And aside from Spidey, it was the only real franchise Sony had. And Franchises is ,nowdays, what the major investors judge a studio by.
