Think 450 is pretty likely but not sold on 500m WW. Depends on China

China probably won't be good. Extremely crowded schedule for Hollywood between late August and mid September. Spidey is extremely popular in that market and comes out just a week after Dunkirk.

Plus South Korea is outright rejecting the film with 60% drops in back to back weeks. Doesn't bode well for other Asian territories.

That this and 47 Meters Down did well this summer considering they were both once in jeopardy of going straight to VOD goes to show that there will always be some sort of audience for a low-budget thriller with an easily marketable premise.

Nope. 400 is locked. Question is whether it can go above 450 and push for 500.

That puts it below Interstellar. But then again it was considerably cheaper to make and war films are limited to their overseas appeal. So yeah $450M would be a win.

Didn't know that about South Korea. Interesting.

South Korea isn't a rejection so much as stiff competition. Local movies crushed it plus Despicable Me 3. Battleship Island had one of the biggest openings of all time. Dunkirk had to give in the process.

I don't expect much more than 50m or so in China despite that, but it's not impossible for that # to climb a bit. Plus, China is the kind of market where you do most of your damage in the first week anyway.

Sci-fi concept with a lot of visual eye candy is much easier to sell to audiences in general, no matter what territory. Just glad Dunkirk won't be a money loser, which it could've been pretty easily.

The UK is overperforming but that's to be expected given the subject matter. WB will make money from it and Nolan will get a nice payday as well.

In a time where every weekend releases a new blockbuster, sometimes people want a simple turn off your brain low budget movie. Although personally I'd wait to redbox either one.

Yeah, Interstellar's OS is very impressive. It actually beat Gravity!

Gravity      274 dom + 449 os = 723 ww

Interstellar 188 dom + 487 os = 675 ww

Dunkirk is a WW2 historical movie, doing 400-500 million WW is a big deal.

Without Nolan doubt it do half.

Without Nolan, it wouldn't be greenlit by an American studio due to the large budget and lack of American characters. Even recent war movies on much smaller budgets seem to lean on famous American actors like Brad Pitt.

Pretty Ballsy for WB to put a straight war film in such a coveted Summer slot but it paid off.

Warner Bros made so much money from Nolan from TDK trilogy alone that they can afford to greenlit a risky film like Dunkirk.
