titanic2187
Toro is in full force for this category, Nolan is losing almost all of his winning odd with consecutively losses to tero, the last 2 times where director won both gg and critics choice but not Oscar in the end, was boyhood and social network,
The Panda
Pretty much I think DGA goes 5/5, The Florida Project really flopped with the guilds (and so I think Dafoe is close to losing his lead as a frontrunner) so Baker won’t make a surprise showing. Further, the only real alternatives are Guadagino (who hasn’t shown up yet), Spielberg (The Post is barely holding on though, so doubtful), or maybe Villeneuve or Scott (in a foxcatcher like nomination) but I’m also doubtful there. MovieMan89
GDT would make this the 4th out of the last 5 years a Mexican director won.

Guadagnino is the one most likely to pull a Lenny Abrahamson/Benh Zeitlin IMO. But at whose expense is the question.

But at whose expense is the question. honestly if anyone's out i think it's nolan. as much of a "look at all this directing i'm doing" movie as it is it's not really in the conversation rn as much as all the other big players. easy to fall behind. filmlover
We'll never hear the end of it if Nolan gets snubbed in a year where it seems like the stars had completely aligned for him. Might as well just shut down the Internet.
The Panda
This would be the one case where I’d agree with the Nolanites that a snub for Nolan would be ridiculous. Dunkirk is very well directed.

Webslinger
Man, if Nolan gets snubbed again - and for a WWII film, no less... As is, I'm fairly confident that the Oscar lineup will match up with the DGA.

filmlover
I'm thinking Peele is gonna be the one that gets snubbed Tuesday morning (and Guadagnino takes his place). Get Out clearly isn't very strong (and is likely to go home empty-handed at this point).
BardCrank
In the past 17 years the DGA got 5/5 only twice , 2009 and 2005 which means probably either Gerwig or Peele are sitting this one out

WrathOfHan
If Peele or Gerwig get snubbed, it'll be for a previous nominee. The DGA lineup/consensus 5 is made up of first time nominees in the category, which has only happened three times excluding the first year: 1997 1995 1948 In order, I'd say the previous nominees with a shot at getting in are Spielberg (who's my alt and I might drop Gerwig for), PTA (anywhere from 7-9th), Villeneuve (10th), and Scott (11th) Edited January 22, 2018 by WrathOfHan
Valonqar
Peele is not getting snubbed. Who would kick him out? Spielberg? His movie is as good as dead, we may actually see a shocking Streep snub tomorrow. Luca? he didn't fly with DGA and though they don't always go 5/5 I'm just not seeing it.
titanic2187
if one to be snubbed, it is peele, it's hard to think that the member would vote for him as get out is his directorial debut film

Guadagnino got in at BAFTA too. He makes total sense as a surprise nominee, more than Spielberg (The Post getting snubbed from Best Picture is more likely to happen than him getting a Best Director nom).
