The problem is many theaters feel the need to keep one PG family movie around for concession sales. Families will undoubtedly make a significant portion Thor and Daddy's Home's audiences, but there isn't a PG film coming out until Wonder and The Star on the 17th. If my theater is any indication, it really isn't worth dragging it out for 3 more weeks just for a couple of shows on Saturday and Sunday that sell about 20 tickets each. The first show today only sold 10 tickets!

“Most of Horror movies” in these last few years got amazing multiples, especially the ones with good WOM like HDD.

TCU films (except Annabelle) tend to have solid legs, IT looked like and was an event, Get Out was a great film with political commentary too, and Split was also a great film. However that doesn’t mean every horror movie will have insane legs.

IT is at $651M WW after opening to a record breaking $7.7M in Italy, it is going to surpass The Sixth Sense next week to become the biggest Horror movie ever WW.

However the future is looking great for the horror genre, IT 2 should do $300M, TCU will keep on creating great films and greater numbers, Blumhouse also make great horror movies, Glass and maybe Spooky Jack has a great shot for $200M.

You're overestimating how well-received HDD was by audiences. The RT audience score is at 71%, which is fine but doesn't exactly indicate it would have good holds.

I watched Geostorm yesterday and had some fun. I got actually what I expected from it and left the theater not pissed.
