Would anyone believe it if someone told us that It would do more money on OW than the grosses of every single movie on this very weekend COMBINED?

That's how insane its run really is.

And how sad this weekend really is

Sine we’re talking about horror at the box office, even though it’s early I think Spooky Jack might be a big hit if Blumhouse and Dreamworks make it work.

It's unlikely to be horror like IT or Glass, more Goosebumps or Nightmare Before Christmas.

Solid opening for Boo! 2, even if it's the second-lowest Madea opening to date. The fact that the character can still pull $20 million openings twelve years in - especially with reports that this sequel is essentially the same exact movie as its predecessor - speaks to how well Tyler Perry has maintained his brand over time.

Weak start for Geostorm, but the writing has been on the wall for months. It's the kind of movie that probably would have done significantly better 20 years ago when disaster movies were hot tickets, but every piece of advertising looked dumb and derivative, and the fact that Warner Bros was willing to open it two weeks after Blade Runner - which they clearly thought would be a big player - and two weeks before Thor - which will wipe it off the map - showed that they had no confidence in it.

Yikes at that Happy Death Day drop. I would have thought that the proximity to Halloween would have kept it afloat, but evidently it didn't. Even so, it's already a solid little moneymaker against the standard tiny Blumhouse budget.

It's sad that Blade Runner 2049 can't catch a break. It might even struggle to get past $90 million at this rate.

Only the Brave had a very weak opening. Despite the surprisingly strong reviews, Sony wasn't as aggressive with the campaign as they could have been and they suffered for it this weekend.

The Foreigner got hit hard with all the new competition for its demo. Its domestic total should land close to its production budget.

It held up pretty well relative to other big drops in the marketplace. I'm curious to see whether it can ride the proximity to Halloween to a good hold next weekend, especially in the face of low hype for Jigsaw.

The Snowman bombed. It's yet another case file as to the importance of not getting eviscerated by critics if you're aiming for a mature audience.

Looks like Kingsman will still be able to narrowly surpass $100 million.

I predict Jigsaw will open between 10-13 million.

I love the series, but the previous movie was terrible ( Saw 3D ) . I hope this new movie is better than that ( it won't be hard ).

Saw 1,2,3 and 6 are the best, imo. Fortunately the budgets aren't high. Saw 3D was the most expensive ( 17 million ), but that's because of the crappy 3D effects.

Ignore the sbove^. But anyway another dead weekend, Madea's debut is on-par with Diary Of A Mad Black Woman. But it's definitely not as liked as its predecessor.

overall not bad for a rushed sequel, and should make close to $55 million domestic.

as for the other new releases, dead on arrival. The long-delayed Geostorm died out. The film's opening was slightly ahead of disaster films such as The Core or Pompeii, but both had more attendance. Overall the film should make close to $30 million domestic, and make it the third biggest bomb of 2017 right behind Valerian, and King Arthur.

The Snowman melted its outing with way lower than its already low expectations. The film had horrible word of mouth, and should make less than $10 million domestic.

Only The Brave had amazing word of mouth, but the film wasn't what audiences wanted to see. There could have been some possibilities why, the California wildfires or not good marketing. Mostly lackluster marketing and interest. The film should make close to $15 million domestic.

As for holdovers, Happy Death Day got punched after a nice opening weekend. But should still come to a very solid close around $55 million domestic.

Blade Runner 2049 still being shot down, the film should perform around $85-$90 million domestic.

I think Harvey Weinstein scandal is hurting box office. People are just turned off by Hollywood now.

Pretty sure the fact that people's choices were Geostorm or The Snowman is what's doing most of the damage

For once we agree, Ethan. The poor box office is because we have had a few weeks where no movies people really wanted to see came out.

Once the big November films come out, Box office will pick up bigtime.

That Geostorm sat on the shelves for two years tells you how much confidence Warners had in it.......

it's doing  a little better overseas, but with a 100 Million dollar  price tag..which means around 200 Million to break even,,,Warners will lose quite a bit of money on it. They are probably grateful that their losses will not be as great as they could have been.

But Warners has JL to look forward to....

Kingsman has done enough OS to justify a third film. I wonder if Fox will go for a fall release for the third film or perhaps late summer.

If Fox goes ahead on Kingsman 3, it will be a much smaller budget then Kingsman 2.

The schedule for August and October were horrible. And yes I know the box office is trending downwards in general but Hollywood doesn't have to rush it by not releasing any movies that look like anything people are going to remotely pay money to see.

They could afford to keep the budget the same as 2 or maybe $5-10m lower. I don't think it'll cut to say $50-60m as they'll likely to have Firth and Egerton back

TBF There have always been weeks and months which Hollywood uses to dump crappy movies, January usually has its fair share of crappy movies.
