He can also act as a mentor for the young pitching staff.

 

Also, the Phillies payroll was so low that even with Arrieta getting 30m this year, it doesn't crack 100m this season.

 

It's essentially a no-risk signing for them, given the Phillies payroll obligations.

Practicing the speech is always worse than doing the actual speech in my experience.
