The Super Mario Bros. Movie | Universal/Illumination | April 5, 2023 | Chris Pratt is Mario, Charlie Day is Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy is Peach | The most profitable movie of 2023

Some of these reviews are predictably seeing the film parading its worlds and levels around as some sort of advertising? Bizarre. This is exactly what it should be. The Mario characters journeying towards Bowser and referencing left, right and centre to bits from all of the games. That’s what anyone who is a fan of Mario would want to see!?!

does the average Nintendo fan count as a "normie"? if they poll theaters today or tomorrow itll be mostly them

Hardcore Nintendo fans are gonna go nuts for it but I mean more kids and parents. This is aimed at 8-year-olds with a lot of references and wink-wink jokes to keep older fans and parents happy.

I'd agree here. This seems like a critc-proof film. Like the 1st 3 transformer movies were

It's honestly crazy to me that after all the trauma and reluctance it caused at Nintendo, the live action Bob Hoskins version might end up being the definitive Mario movie after all. On the bright side, at least my childhood hero Kirby will never be tainted. And I'm sure Paramount and Sega are laughing their asses off while readying themselves for a killing next Christmas.

As others have said, critics dont matter for this movie - like at all, imo. Familys dont care. The Minions movie (first one) was utter trash, yet it was eaten up by audiences. Despicable Me 2 and 3 were ... well, despicable, yet they were eaten up by audiences. It was no secret that The Secret Life of Pets was trash, yet it was eaten up by audiences. And while that movies sequel did underperform, i dont see any scenario where Mario will be held down by these reviews.

As long as its fast paced, has jokes in it and is colorfull, audiences will eat this up. 400M+ DOM is where i see it, easily.

Don’t get me wrong, I want the film to be good.  Yet what those naysayers are saying they don’t like about it are the things I demand and want from a Mario movie I’ve waited my whole life for.

“Every sequence is like a big reference from one of the games”. Hell yes!! That’s the world!! What did you want them to do? Bring the characters into the real world in the most boring and generic obvious idea, rather than them play in their own playground we love them in?

“An excuse to have a race across the rainbow in karts”.  Damn right!!!

If you don't have comedy and you don't have story, you need magic, and I dont think magic is possible if you want to be a reference-fest

This is sure as hell not reaching anywhere near a billion anymore. And a Rotten rating is basically a kiss of death in this day and age of a massive gluttony of entertainment options. Just look at Shazam 2.

Are you really comparing this to Shazam 2?

You know damn well that all this doom posting is anywhere close to reality. Let's see the CS first, because that is ALL that matters for Illumination movies.
