Isn't the TLJ hold better than what most people make it out to be, considering the theater count drop tho? At least it feels that way to me. :qotd:

Theater count drop was similar to Rogue One. This is a holiday weekend, so the Sunday gross is boosted (same was true for Rogue One). Rogue dropped 39% for the 3-day and TLJ dropped 49% for the 3-day.

Just like Power Rangers 2017

A cinemascore. Movie flopped, by the way.

The Power Rangers 66% audience score on RT was obviously sabotaged by rival fan and MRA bots.

I dunno about that. It dropped worse this weekend, but could just have a similar drop to the others next week (mid-40's). 4th weekend was a similar drop between all three movies (53-55% drops).

Already proven untrue when BvS and JL underperformed. They should keep Batman in solo movies. Wonder Woman too.

Agreed.   He's like the Hawkeye in Avengers...except the Avengers movies don't have to pretend Hawkeye is the most important member and make the other characters into idiots to make him look smart.

Yes, but they're both in contention for the all time admission record of a CBM and it would be nice to definitively know which wins (or SM1).

Interesting how "admissions" was not brought up when TDK was passing movies due to inflation but then it became vitally important when Avengers passed TDK.

Looking at the actuals for smaller films, they seem to have fallen close to 40%. Wonder if people hold on to Disc Tuesdays so much that even holiday-Mondays take a hit.

I kind of doubt that, admissions is always brought up every time for every movie on any serious platform, maybe on some fan message board/ not specialized about the business ones, but all of those will absolutely bring up those.

I doubt anyone remotely serious thought that the dark knight was a bigger box office success, phenomenon, any word to describe a movie than Star Wars a New Hope, E.T. or Gone with the Wind just because it made more at the box office in face value dollar (something meaningless, like comparing how much a movie made in Yen versus one in US Dollars) than them.

Any chance Greatest Showman can reach $150m? Would be incredible if it gets there.

has a shot at beating apes3 (146.9). it's 48.6 away after a 15.6 4-day.

I definitely think so. I mean it did numbers on par with RO last year and that added 31m from here, and there's no way the holds for TGS from here on aren't going to be way better than that. Frozen actually might not be the worst comparison, which had a similar gross and hold as TGS during MLK weekend 2014 and went on to add another $64m from there.

TLJ has gotten 2 50% drops in row and the number one reason is that interest in this SW film is fading very quickly as it was nothing special like TFA was.

That has nothing to do with anything and is just your poor reading of things based on personal bias, nothing more. You troll every thread with how much you hate the movie because you failed to understand it. TFA is a great movie but it’s about as deep as a puddle of water compared to TLJ, so apparently you want something simple and easy to understand which is fine but that doesn’t make the movie bad, it makes you bad at understanding it. I think TLJ is very special and your opinion stinks.

to be fair you need to have a very high IQ to understand the last jedi. Without a firm grasp on deconstructionist literature and critical theory most of this stuff would go over your head. Star Wars used to be for children, but Rian Johnson elevated it to another level. Now I can go to a party and chat about Star Wars with intellectual minds,  where we discuss Rian Johnsons brilliant takedown of the Jedi philosophy who just like the phallocentric white male western patriarchy, was bogged down in it's own dogma.
